I presume this is an attempt to protect the CHL from having players poached into the AHL?

Then insert language like "No CHL'er can play in the AHL until 20, unless drafted by a NHL team. It's a free country - if a player is too good to play junior, he shouldn't be playing junior.

Of course, the CHL lets all the Russians and other Euros play in the league now so it's not too hard to find replacements anyway. Dumb rule.

Is it time to start a Dave Nonis death watch thread? Or is this thread kind of that already

Oh, I agree, trust me. I guess it's probably the NHLs way of appeasing junior leagues and saying "thanks for developing them for free". But still, it's much more beneficial in most cases to have these guys in a pro league under their team's eye. Would it complicate entry level contract stuff though? I'm guessing it would because AHL is considered pro?

Shouldn't matter in terms of entry-level.

Also, many CHL franchises make money. They pay the players a pittance and are the only source of entertainment in many of their host cities. Fuck, the Ottawa OHL team might be more popular than the Sens there.

You got Clarkson on that merit, man...you can't get too greedy.

Only one superstar per summer, eh?

Well, I understand why he didn't leave. The lure of LA/Southern CA is pretty damn strong. Can only imagine how amazing it must be to be young, rich and living on a California beach. I wonder if there are any other Toronto-raised superstar NHL'ers becoming free agents anytime soon...

Or said player has to have 3 CHL seasons and/or 180 games played in the CHL - Bo Horvat is another example of a guy who isn't ready for full-time NHL duty, but he can't be sent to Utica because he's only 19 years old (will be 20 in April). Sending him back to junior would be counter-productive, but the Canucks should be able to send him to Utica where he would be playing 20 minutes a game.

Someone had to get a second mortgage to afford those tier two fan seats.

Really dumb to throw it on during play. Hope he got his ass kicked.

On the flip side, more jerseys were thrown on the ice in one game (3) than the Leafs have scored goals in five games (2).

Cracks me up that someone actually took the time to come up with that list.

Or this stat:
Also, since January 10th Devan Dubnyk has more points than the Leafs 14 highest paid players combined.

/At least the Jackets tried to make them feel good by shitting the bed in that game.

One thing I'm getting really tired of reading/hearing... "Should have drafted Domi instead of Nylander!". Um, different draft dumbass...

And even if it was the same draft... no.

Meh. No, but I can't say I'm exceedingly high on Nylander at this stage. Being the most promising Leafs prospect is like being the Presidential nominee for a third party. He could be Ross Perot, but in the limited appearances I've seen him in he hasn't look like much more than a Ralph Nader.

I don't know, seems like Nylander has a bit more complete game and there is concern that Domi's flash will not translate well to the NHL. At least from what I have read. Nylander might not be a bigger impact player, but is a much safer bet for a team looking for stability.

Maybe, but I would argue that "complete game" descriptor. He seems to be more of a Phil Kessel-type talent. Very gifted offensively, very inept off the puck. It showed at the Juniors.

Still, i'll take a younger, prettier Phil Kessel if it means we can trade the old Phil Kessel for picks and prospects and draft a centre to play with new Kessel.
