Golf was apparently so important to their training routine that they decided to expand the golf season to begin right after the regular season ends.

I don't imagine their fitness regiment was much different from anyone else, back then. Even in '72, team Canada's fitness level was was completely behind the Soviets and it almost cost them the series.
