This has more red flags than Tiananmen Square. Jesus Christ don't do this Kyle. From Friedman's podcast:
Got a note on Sunday that someone sent to me, get working on this one. We know what happened with Matt Murray last week. Vetoed a trade to Buffalo, then Ottawa continued it's efforts. It was believed he was interested in Toronto and Edmonton. I don't think there's going to be a vacancy in Edmonton. I think he was very interested in Toronto. A lot of history with Murray in Toronto, Dubas/Keefe also John Elkin who runs the goalie department, has a long history with Murray, skated together in the summers. I think they've been working on this for a few days, I heard it really heated up on Sunday. And what I think is going on there is I don't think Murray is eligible to be bought out. Don't think he was cleared to return yet. Dorion said he was progression well, supposed to be in the ice soon. I don't think that means he's cleared. Once the Maple Leafs and Senators got close on this trade, the Maple Leafs wanted to take a look at him. I think that's what were waiting for here, so there's no medical issue. As we record this on Sunday night, I'm not sure. With the Ottawa trade to Buffalo, the Senators were eating 25% of his salary. There's another question here in that is it being routed through a 3rd team? We'll figure this all out."
Even for $2.5 million, there was absolutely zero reason to not just keep Mrazek and hope for a bounceback if this was the follow-up plan. A guy who's so unhealthy he can't be bought out (yet - there's another buyout window, just wait for that one and see if he gets healthy again??) isn't the goalie you want to bank your incredibly important, Cup-contention window "open" season on with absolutely no room for a true 1A goalie. This is so fucking dumb.
