Prospective Seattle NHL owner buys $281m worth of land in SoDo Area

SEATTLE – Prospective Seattle NHL owner Victor Coleman recently purchased buildings on two city blocks near the Stadium District for $281 million.

That would mean Coleman has already spent more on land in the SoDo area than investor Chris Hansen, who would like to build an NBA/NHL arena in the neighborhood.

Coleman, along with a couple business partners, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, and NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly, all were part of a delegation that flew to Seattle on May 6 and had individual separate meetings with King County Executive Dow Constantine and Seattle Mayor Ed Murray.

The arena project is currently undergoing an environmental review. That needs to be completed, and an NBA team to be acquired, before construction and financing can begin. There is no such clause, if an NHL team, was to be acquired first.

Is there any area available in the Western part of Canada that may be open to get a team?

I think he's better off relocating a team like Florida or Phoenix there.

nothing big enough for population, Saskatchewan is too spread out and their biggest towns are fairly small

saskatoon 250K
Regina 230K

Alberta has 2 teams already
BC does not have another city big enough to handle an NHL team

Seattle/Portland is good but not for 2 teams.

my buddy is on that everytime expansion starts talking again. lol thing is I KNOW they could support it, the Indian community alone would be all over that. the canucks however would never ever allow that

No way, they're in the Eastern time zone. That's not fair to them. They belong in the East.

Seattle should get 1 team. No way they need 2 in that area. Quebec really should have a team come back, same way Winnipeg did.

Illitch will not stand for it, no matter how much sense it makes.

There are some candidates for Western conference expansion, though.

Milwaukee, Kansas City, Portland, OKC (albeit a weak choice - they have an arena), Houston...

Please not Vegas.

Or the most logical choice... cut two teams in the East.

If expansion is in the cards, it should be Honolulu and Vegas in the West, move Phoenix to Seattle FLA to Quebec City.

/Dammit Gary, it was my idea first

Victoria could upgrade one of their 2 arenas and Boom.

There is so much an support for the Canucks and others (suprisingly alot of bruins) that if we put a expansion team...............
