I wouldn't call Bellevue the boondocks by any means. As for Seattle politicians, I doubt they would have any say, because they are not going to put up a penny for a Hockey arena, unless it includes the NBA. If a hockey arena is built it will be with private money and maybe some money from Bellevue ( lots of rich folks out that way).

I don't think Bellevue is as bad as Glendale but I'm just saying in general, you would think the NHL would try their hardest/best to have the arena somewhere in downtown Seattle

That could only be done with 100% private money.

Traffic situation would be a nightmare in Bellevue. Everyone knows this. Never going to happen.

An NHL team would be an important starter for getting the arena construction started at the original planed site south of Safeco field.

Stern is semi-retiring. The new NBA commish has Seattle as a top priority.

Adam silver (sterns replacement) said at all star weekend it wasnt

ESPN NBA Adam Silver: Seattle's hopes on hold

My understanding is they need to change to mou for the new downtown arena to allow it to be built without an nba team in place

Is hansen fine with being only a landlord for yhe forseeable future??? A money losing landlord????

I would think he sees the value in getting the arena built. The NBA has him over a barrel and he knows it. As it stands now an NBA team is needed to get the new arena built. The NBA can stall and screw Seattle over because an NBA team doesn't have a place to play. Getting the new arena built eliminates the only legitimate argument against Seattle getting an NBA team. It's obvious the NBA is not going to go out of its way at all to help out Seattle. So it's time to start looking at the NHL to get it done.

Drives me insane that Bettman has such a hard on for Vegas.

All it will do is turn hockey into a Penn and Teller type sideshow in that town. It will do nothing to grow the game. Yeah, they will have a full arena every night. And all but like six people will be there because they got tickets for betting big at keno.

Fucking ridiculous.

Plus, yeah. You REALLY want your "professional" sports league that closely aligned with gambling and organized crime. That will do wonders for the credibility of the league, which is probably why the other three major sports are so desperate to go there . I guess Gretzky will be the GM.

Milwaukee. Kansas City. OKC. Portland. Shit, even Houston. Not Las Vegas.

I just think of the epic road trips groups of people would make for their teams to Vegas. holy crap would that be fun, I would love to see the study however on how they think it would work otherwise, I can see hotels buying season tickets and using that to bring people in and giving away the games, I could see sellouts all the time through that but for how long. the gate is not the only way to bring in revenue you need a fan base. would Nevada give that for support? then there is the gambling. does the NHL want that team there and have its fans walking out to the sportsbook IN the arena to place bets on a PP or on a period. what message does that send.

i think the nhl would probably make (as a condition of being awarded a team) Nevada (or at least Vegas) pull gambling on hockey from the sportsbooks

last i heard, hockey doesnt generate huge gambling volume in vegas anyways

I always get a funny look from the person on the other side of the counter when I place my NHL bets at one of the sporting books in Vegas.

in the online world it was the lowest gambling revenue of the big sports. Im not sure what its like for Sports Action but for the oversea books it was not great. had great margin but not high volume

there was a time for sports action that in the last 2 to 3 weeks of the NBA season when teams were locked it was such easy money. the odds makers were so bad that they gave regular odds for teams that sat starters constantly. it was so great. they finally fixed that :(
