You guys think there's any chance they could put teams in both Seattle AND Portland? Territorally it might be tough but they seem like good choices

Good point Boss. I know if I'm in Vegas I'd rather hang out in a sports book and watch all the games than to go to a game in person. I was in Caesar's sports book a few years ago during the Mexico US Gold Cup final and the place was electric, I can only imagine what it would be like for playoff games and boxing matches - that is my type of place and I will gladly drop my coin there as opposed to going to an NHL game that happens to be in town.

Of course, the easy remedy to this is build a sports book at the NHL arena...

One point I missed is that the people said it would work in Phoenix because they have so many transplants as does Vegas but the city of Phoenix has just under 1.6 million people and the city of Vegas has 600,000 so that doesn't work either.

Golf in the morning, some gambling in the afternoon, catch a NHL game, and then a stop at the Spearmint Rhino. Not a bad way to spend a day.

I could see it happening one or the other but not both at the same time. My guess would be Seattle first because of the market size. The second city to get a team would wait for quite a while IMO.

Edit: Depending how the first team worked out but they would want a lot of data or history to look at. Damn posting before I finished my thought. It sucks getting old.

just under 150 miles distance from one another ... what does the nhl constitution say about vetoes

an issue would be local tv ... i think ROOT sports Northwest covers Washington state and Oregon ... ie 1 network to cover 2 teams ...

dont know if they would be capable of covering that "supply' of games (ie number of prgramming hours would overlap and would be limited) and consequently, either team would probably get very little broadcasting revenue

Quebec makes a lot lot more sense than Las Vegas. So does Hartford, Connecticut, for that matter.

Can't really hold the casinos against Vegas anymore since so many other states have them now, but I
vould easily do without it.

how many states have legalized sports betting ... thats the issue ... its not about casinos ... its the sports betting

Seattle could have ROOT sports for local TV and Portland could have Comcast Sports Net(Trail Blazers play on Comcast Sports Net)

I'm not so sure about that and to be very honest I don't think a team in Vegas would work any better than one in Phoenix. In fact it probably would be worse. No way am I convinced Vegas is or has the potential to be a hockey town. It's an adult play ground wrapped around the tourist industry and the residents and tourist don't give a damn about going to a hockey game.

What has been mentioned in several articles is that Casinos would likely Gobble up season tickets to comp to folks (or offer in room packages etc).

The issue with Comcast Sports Net is that it is not in the basic cable package, you have to get a premium digital package to get the blazers.

I suspect most casinos have sports betting. I don't actually know but it would not surprise me if that were the case.

New Jersey ... Las Vegas ... what other jurisdiction in the US allows sports betting?

Yeah it's not like you're going to go because they give you tickets if you don't like the product. If they gave me front row tickets and back stage pass to see some rapper i'd probably use them in my room as a coaster for my martini. No matter what they cost.

truth boss

and then you end up with an arena filled with 6 guys who are hiding from their bookie, 2 guys trying to get out of the heat so they are looking for AC and 7 peeps who wandered in accidentally because they recreated the Hangover the night before
