Call me crazy but I don't think the Savard contract is THAT bad. Granted I didn't watch him much this year but in the past I've always liked his game.

It's comparison. He's making twice what Ryan Murray is, and likely even with what Jones is going to get.

He is not even a tenth as valuable as them.

He's a decent bottom pair guy with good speed for his size. He takes up a lot of room and will block shots, which I guess is why he got that deal. If he was making Prout money, I wouldn't dare want to trade him. But considering who the Jackets have to sign over the next few years and how little they have to do it, Savard is an albatross.

He's providing pretty good bang for the buck considering he's 55 years old.

/Oh my bad, that's Denis Savard, not David.

His hockey sense is more Dennis the Menace than (uncle) Denis Savard

He out scored both players on a point-per-game level and had the same number of points as Murray in 17 fewer games.

He's also about the same possession-wise as Murray and didn't have the benefit of playing half the season alongside Jones.

Not saying he's a better player than either than them but "not a tenth as valuable"? That's a bit over the top.

Florida was quite open 2 years ago about their willingness to trade the 1st overall pick. Nobody paid up and Florida got a franchise d-man out of it.

These trades just never happen. It would be a shock.

hey @dash, seems the rumo(u)r is that the Flames want that pick. I hope you enjoy Clarkson (he's a nice guy) and we'll take good care of Moneyhands.

Is he truculent, belligerent, full of pugnacity and testosterone? Also, you keep your grubby hands off Moneyhands, but you can have Matt Stajan.

18 year old + 6th pick for 3rd?

I make that trade if I'm CBJ. Not sure why the Flames would, though.

He is trepidacious, bewildered, full of patheticness and twisted ligaments. Close enough.

We don't have cap for Stajan. You'd have to take Boll and Campbell too.

Geez, all the Flames really need is a guy between the pipes that could put up about a .915 save percentage and another top 6 winger and they'll be right back in the playoff hunt. Sometimes, the best trades are the ones you don't make.

Gotta think that CBJ would need to add something there.

Or make it something like Bennett, Poirier and Calgary's 2nd rounder?

I think if you are interested in a young goalie and can take on another piece, we could talk.

3rd overall is out of the question.

How 'bout Rychel, Forsberg, Johnson for Backlund and your 2nd rounder?

Couldn't see CBJ trading 3 without getting another top ten pick to draft a centre with.

Like I said earlier, it would be stunning to see a deal for one of the top 3 picks.

Hmmm, that is tempting (apart from Jack Johnson). I like Mikael Backlund though, great 3rd line center who is just a solid NHL player. I think I'll have to pass.

I know they'd like to draft a C but outside of Matthews they might not find one better than Bennett in this draft (maybe Dubois if he plays C at the pro level). They'd get their C and he'd already have a couple of years of development under his belt.

If CBJ is drafting for position they:

A) Are as dumb as a bag of hammers,

B) Could do a lot worse than Bennett.

I'd say they couldn't be stupid enough to pass on Pul, but then I remember they traded for David Clarkson.

Gonna be a fun few weeks.

Report: Blue Jackets' Hartnell waives no-movement clause to several teams

They've talked Hartnell into it. I don't like it, but they need space to sign Jones and they have literally no other way to get it other than trading Atkinson. Of the two, I'd prefer Cam stay.

Have to wonder if the Jets (1.1m under the floor and nearly 20m in space) would be interested and are on the list)?

I'd like to see Dano back an awful lot.

Jets have to re-sign Schiefele and Trouba, amongst other RFA's. Also need to figure out their goaltending in case Hellebuyck isn't ready. They also have the ammunition to swing a trade for a star if one becomes available so they would probably save the cap space for that possibility.

If I had to guess on Hartnell, Buffalo, Brooklyn and Ottawa all would make sense.
