If Columbus looks at their infirmary of a roster and says "yeah, let's beat everybody to the punch by trading assets now for Bo Horvat in the hope we can sign him instead of waiting until the summer" I don't think they're ever going to get out of the doghouse.

Actually not all that much any more. I am not in favor of anything that will help this team right now. We need a top 3 pick. We need Bedard, Fantilli or Carlsson. Over the summer, I was all on board.

Unless he could be had for like Jenner and Nyquist or Gubberson, there is no one on the roster (that is healthy) that I want to see go.

We need to make a decision on Gavrikov, and Bean and Boqvist are expendable but basically only usable for parts right now. Defence next year is gonna look completely different, but I want Peeke and obviously Werenski to stay. I like Gavvy too, I want him to stay unless someone REALLY wants to overpay. Not willing to part with any of the young D guys because all are showing promise. Christiansen looks legit (and plays roller hockey with Bedard and Johnson), Bjork has some real good moments and Jiricek is adjusting in the A pretty well.

I just can't see the opportunity cost of getting Horvat making sense as opposed to just hoping he hits UFA and giving it a go then. Better to just stack up the picks and continue building. If they can get Horvat in the offseason, cool. If not they have as much trade capital as anybody to go out and deal for somebody as good or better.

Oh my God these trade proposals from Jackets fans on Twitter and Reddit are going to give me rickets or something.

One was VAN sign and trade at 5x5 for Boqvist, Roslovic and Voronkov. First of all if Bo would sign for 5m, IT WOULD ALREADY BE DONE. Also, Voronkov is never leaving Russia. And he's not a defenseman. Boquist is a smaller, slower, more fragile OEL.

One guy suggested Roslovic and Gavrikov straight up (with extension). An overperforming but versatile center for an underperforming but versatile center and a defenseman who would not really fit the needs of the Canucks because he's left handed. Plus he's a guy who will command a shit ton more as a rental at the deadline than he will right now.

There is also a disturbing number of people who are slotting Horvat in as 2C behind Jenner. The fact that Jenner is a slow old dinosaur is the entire reason we need a fucking center at all.

Last game, Kent Johnson got put with Gaudreau and Jenner in the third period and he created two goals and another solid scoring chance that Jenner (shockingly) failed to bury.

So today, it was clear what Larsen needed to do: He put Johnson on the third line with Gaunce and Foudy.
