what were Dutch Gretzkys stats during the lockout in Holland

reason i ask ... canucks coaching candidate Willie Desjardins put up 107 in 52games in the 83-84 season

give him the nickname!!!

/although a bit suspicious that Desjardins stats are the only players stats listed on hockeydb for the 1983-84 Dutch Hockey league season

It's probably that they don't carry the league stats and he's the only player in that league that year that went on to play in a league that they do carry. There are a lot of these types of situations on hockeydb (my college team apparently only had a two-man roster for instance). But yes, it certainly does make you question the validity of the numbers either way.

I thought it was a clearcut case of resume embellishment. Maybe desjardins served in the vietnam war with former jays coach tim johnson

That sounds like a guy right out of Slapshot (lol)

I thought that Dutch Lindros was a little harsh given that it's actually a concussion

It could be both. I'm pretty sure that the numbers listed for my teammate are just the ones that my college coach sent out to teams when he was trying to get the guy a tryout, which were probably just given to him by the player given that he didn't really even keep stats of any kind (I found this out clearly after getting screamed at when I was trying to get the puck after my 100th point)

Benning, Kesler 'touched base' Thursday ? Nichols on Hockey

On where things stand with Ryan Kesler:

"We've touched base. I've touched base with the agent and I touched base with Ryan yesterday. You know, we're still going back and forth on that. We're going to listen to Ryan and, you know, we're going to have a good, honest, open communication and then from where it leads to at this point I don't know, but we've had open communication with him and his agent."

On if there is a free agent fit for the Canucks in net, if something was too good to pass up. Could they look at that with their cap scenario?

"Yeah, we're going to look at every avenue that we have to make our team competitive. Vancouver is a big market city. We've got a passionate fan base. You know, our owners want to win so we're going to look at every possible scenario we can to try to make the team competitive for the playoffs and to get to where we want to be challenging for a Stanley Cup again."

Sounds like Benning will be attempting a re-tooling rather than a re-building...Pretty much locked into that with the Sedins under contract for four more years.

Botchford summed it up pretty well this morn ... we missed the bus lol

Seeing a 21-year-old carry the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 5 had to send chills up and down the spine of the Western Conference.

It wasn’t only that Brandon Saad played like a future star for a team that was already loaded when he was drafted in 2011.

It was that L.A. and Chicago looked like super teams, poised to dominate the West for years.

Game 5 was their Mozart piano concerto. A showcase of talent that was as impressive as it was frightening.

Hockey Night in Canada’s Elliotte Friedman verbalized it on the telecast. But we’ve all been thinking it.

These are the teams you have to get through to get to the Stanley Cup final in the Big Boy Conference?

You have to beat this?

Good luck

It leaves the Canucks with a critical question that cuts to the core of everything they do this offseason.

Are they trying to make it to the playoffs or are they trying to win a Stanley Cup?

Are they driven by the pursuit of some playoff revenue, or is the goal here to get a ring?

Because those objectives appear to be mutually exclusive.

Someone joked during Wednesday’s Game 5 that the Canucks seem 17 players away from entering the ring in the same weight class.

Oh yeah, and a coach.

I like the Canucks and would enjoy seeing them do something for a change. However , if anyone there thinks the Sedins are taking them to the promised land they are fuckin delusional.

Hey Vancouver people. Do any of you ever watch the Vancouver Giants? If so any thoughts on Dalton Thrower? The Habs just signed him and his numbers look pretty decent for a defencemen.

Good signing by the Habs comeds, I think he's going to be a good NHL defenseman.
