Like I said, I can't find any clarification either way in the NHL rules; the language isn't explicit about whether or not ice contact is required, and I kind of wish it was.

He was offside. In every league and in every possible reading of the rule, he was offside. I would imagine the NHL rule isn't specific because every feeder league has the rule that way.

You can only deem the play onside in the sense that the linesman blew the call.

Anyone who thinks that was not offside has clearly never at any point in there life played the sport of hockey or truthfully even watched it before last night.

Wild played bad in OT so once it got there the Avs deserved that. But between the no call on Coyle and the no offside call..........the refs were clearly involved in some in-game recreational drug usage.

It makes the Granlund and Koivu penalties worse. You call those but don't call the Coyle hold??

I thought we had that game last night. It seemed like Minnesota was getting so many opportunities late then all of the sudden Colorado got their golden chance.

That is my understanding as well. The moment he lifted his back skate off the ice, he should have been offsides.

Great series between 2 upstart teams, but I can't see either of these teams knocking off the Hawks. I think the Avs will win a Cup with this core within the next few years, and Nathan McKinnon is putting a show the likes of which I've never seen from an 18 year old in the playoffs, but I think the Hawks will shut him down if they get past the Wild.
