So basically the numbers are exactly the same with one guy having slight edges in a few categories and the other slight edges in other ones??? Weird. So at this point you have gotten no better and lost experience. Congrats on that one.

i think we have gotten better. it isn't a huge improvement but this is passing stats and kap has made some huge plays with his legs, even before he became a starter.

not to mention he's getting valuable experience. so even if he's on par with smith (who i think we can win a championship with), we come out ahead in the future. plus it helps our cap next year when we cut smith.

You are for sure right on the future part. I think thats a given. Just would make me nervous going into the playoff with a guy with such limited experience. Cant think of the last team to win the SB with a guy in his first year starting. Maybe the Pats in 02??

His arsenal of weapons has been decimated so its hard to judge Kaepernick's effectiveness now. No Hunter, no Manningham, no Williams. The defense being weakend so much by Justin Smith's injury prevents a lot of things Kaepernick can do as well.

This might be a technical question, certainly its weird......but the line I used when linking the Bay Area Sports Guy piece above was quoted on page 2 in the comment section of that article. Does that have to do with the "trackback" feature, or did one of you guys quote it and link it.....something seems strange about it.

LMAO!!! Listen up buttercup, shouldn't you be more worried about YOUR QB whom, despite having both EXPERIENCE and STATS has managed to get his ass kicked in every playoff game he has ever played in while posting a QBr of what 59 or something like that????

STFU with your "Experience" and "Statistical FACTS" argument already, it is just stupid.

Kaepernick > Smith now or in the future.

I don't get what's up for discussion.

How about this stat:

Alex Smith 2013 cap hit: $9750000
Kaepernick 2013 cap hit: $1297535

That extra $10M can go a long way. That could be a Pro-Bowl caliber player at another position. (if you can find that player)

I think the mind set to run when the play is not evolving, is the difference. I think Smith is athletic enough to make plays with his legs but he seems to have the desire to make the play work that was called by the coaches.

Guess this is as good a place as any to post this:

49ers' Colin Kaepernick carrying NFL draft chip on his shoulder - San Jose Mercury News

Gotta be honest, I thought 36 was about a round too high at the time.

I read that, frankly I think getting upset about that is kind of silly, but all really great players (and I'm not saying CK is great) use a lot of made up slights to motivate themselves. I'm thinking more of the NBA, where Bird, Magic, Jordan were famous for it, but I'm sure it happens in the NFL as well.

Some notes from ChrisPozz that have some relevant stats that involve both of our QBs:

I've seen some talk recently about how the 49ers need to utilize play action with Kaepernick more than they have been. I don't know have an opinion on that, but among QBs who have played at least 25% of their team's offensive snaps this season, the 49ers have run play action with Kaepernick on 30.2% of his dropbacks, 5th highest % in the NFL.

Highest % of dropbacks that are play action plays

1. Robert Griffin III - 39.6%
2. Russell Wilson - 36.2%
3. Christian Ponder - 32.3%
4. Cam Newton - 30.8%
5. Colin Kaepernick - 30.2%
6. Peyton Manning - 27.3%
7. Matt Schaub - 25.7%
8. Nick Foles - 24.0%
9. Josh Freeman - 23.4%
10. Tom Brady - 23.2%
11. Alex Smith - 23.0%

--------------------------------

Under the same 25% snap figure, here are his ranks for play action plays:

Completion % - 59.4% (22nd) - Alex Smith has the highest play action comp% (77.6%)

YPA - 7.8 (22nd) - Alex Smith is tied for 1st with RGIII at 11.8 YPA.

QB rating - 87.9 (25th) - Alex Smith is 1st with a QB rating of 134.6.

Another thing to throw out there. Kaepernick has the 3rd highest drop % in the NFL (percentage of drops based on the cumulative number of pass attempts).

1. Blaine Gabbert - 9.7%
2. Robert Griffin III - 8.9%
3. Colin Kaepernick - 8.7%
4. Matt Cassel - 8.3%
5. Aaron Rodgers - 8.2%

----------------

Accuracy % (Completion percentage if you factor in dropped passes and take away spikes and throw aways)

I'm also including YPA and YPA rank

1. Alex Smith - 81.3% - 7.97 YPA (5th highest)
2. Aaron Rodgers - 80.2% - 7.78 (7th)
3. Robert Griffin III - 79.6% - 8.14 (2nd)
4. Peyton Manning - 78.6% - 7.98 (T-3rd)
5. Russell Wilson - 77.1% - 7.96 (6th)
6. Drew Brees - 76.2% - 7.73 (8th)
T-7. Colin Kaepernick - 76.0% - 8.33 (1st)
T-7. Matt Ryan - 76.0% - 7.67 (9th)
9. Ben Roethlisberger - 75.8% - 7.28 (14th)
10. Matt Schaub - 75.7% - 7.37 (T-12th)

Hey, on that note, who would you rather face, the Seahawks or the Redskins in the first Falcon playoff game?

Not sure it really matters. Both teams present problems and are playing really well right now. Id probably rather play the Skins because I think Seattles defense is better than Washingtons but either way it will be tough. Honestly Id rather play Minnesota so can I say Go Vikings!!! LOL

Well better then Dareus having a chip on his shoulder being taken number 3

Dareus plans to make Broncos pay for passing on him

I mean how dare 2 whole teams pass on him!
