The Colorado River's water usage is the dumbest manmade water problem you can think of that has been well-known almost since they started damming it and ignored entirely. The entire premise of water allocation from it was based on water levels that were measured in abnormally wet years that was realized pretty quickly wasn't sustainable and yet instead of reducing use they increased it because the alternative of getting water from even farther sources would cost too much.

Anyway, stop farming almonds.

Almonds require a lot of water, but holy hell look at this chart...

I think there's probably an argument to be made for caloric/nutritional content etc. that makes oranges more worth it than nuts, to an extent. Still a lot though.

wow, didn't realize walnuts were even worse.

i have curtailed my eating of almonds and avocadoes (not eliminated, given option will choose something different). Looks like I'll be adding walnuts to the list.
Surprised oranges are so high, even though they are of course bigger and juicier.

I still use almond milk in most things (not that I use a lot - a gallon will last us weeks) because I from what I read while they use a ton of water, they still waste less water than dairy milk.

Could argue also Oranges don't last as long and nuts can be stored and utilized for a longer period. But, no pun intended, we are comparing apples to oranges when it comes to benefits.

Speaking of water waste never knew about this until recently and the challenges in CA since it is the 10th largest poultry producer.
But when chickens are slaughtered they need to be chilled almost immediately. The cheaper, more common method is fresh water chilled

Wonder how much water would be saved if that wasn't a thing, namely in CA?

On a lighter note. I always wonder about any metro area along the Mississippi River in MS or LA.
Just think they get their water from that River which is downstream to all Metro areas along the Missouri, Ohio and Mississippi rivers. And you know what is along all those rivers that is up stream, yep all the sewer treatment facilities.

Yeah I know they talk about doing a great job of cleaning the waste, but seriously would you want to swim in the Ohio River, anywhere along it?!?
