If only Biden had finished the wall and not let this terrorist into the country.
And for you folks outside the US you probably wished the wall would keep us in. :suds:

I hope she gets taken to the fucking cleaners.

I'm in a crusty mood today too so I'll take it a step further. If an accredited person (lawyer, doctor, etc.) spreads dangerous misinformation during the course of their professional duties I think they should be subject to criminal action, not just civil.

These shitwits run their mouth and then backtrack once the damage has been done. Try spreading misinformation while biting down on a towel in a shower at Rikers Island, assholes.

I'm in a relatively good mood and I agree with all of this.

Agreed. Time for some new laws. The environmental conditions (speaking sociologically, not the actual environment like rain and shit) of a society change over time. Information is much more powerful and able to be manipulated now than it was years ago. Weapons are more dangerous. We've had a prolonged period of legislative gridlock and inaction on major issues and in some instances little to no adaption of law to cover new areas. No constitutional amendments. Legislative representation that is not in equittable or in tune with our founders' intentions. Personally, I'm tired of high-ranking politicians, investment bankers, and other powerful people NOT going to jail for things FAR more reaching and damaging than someone murdering someone. The ending of the Big Short (LINK) captured this perfectly.

400 million guns in circulation in the US. another estimated 50 million purchased in the past year.
among countries with a population of a million+, the next highest per capita rate is Yemen, with 0.53 guns per person.

y'all have some issues.

If the high-ranking people above are the villains, they are the ignorant enablers.

Awwww yeah! Can't wait for all that cheddar to trickle down!
i read that part of Biden's tax plan was to tax capital gains of over $1 million as regular income.
so that would at least partially get captured sometime down the road.

Doesn't that rely on the stock being sold? Maybe the Zoom execs will sell some day but for the Bezos/Musk/Gates/etc. of the world those guys aren't selling anything anytime soon and don't actually need cash money for a single thing in their lives and thus will just continue to be insanely rich and tax-exempt.

i don't know about the others, but Bezos sells a billion $ per year of Amazon, to fund his other ventures (Blue Origin, etc).
I'm sure there are other loopholes, like borrowing against the stock instead of selling it, etc. (not sure how inheritance is taxes down there either)

but at least they are aiming in the right direction

The borrowing against the stock thing is a big issue the way I understand it. Lets them buy property etc. without having to increase their take-home pay.

But I still find the biggest problem to be corporate taxes and how those are handled. Figuring out a way to properly tax big business should be the biggest priority.

Various of them, Gates especially, donated significant quantities of his shares to his charitable ventures. It's a loophole that benefits both parties. He takes a tax write off for the fair market value of the shares which can be offset against any capital gains or other income/benefits (he gets compensated for being on various corporate boards for example).

On the other hand, the charity is (generally) exempt from paying any taxes - capital gains or otherwise - when it sells the stock for operating funds.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking Gates because his dedication to charity is admirable, IMO. Just using him as an example.

Just wanted to say Happy Atheist Day to everyone before it's over. I've been one since I was 13. I think i's no coincidence that the structure of our religious figures (monotheism in single leader societies and polytheism/natural spirit in more disparate social structures) derives from elements of OUR social structures and not a higher being. I don't believe in any gods or any afterlife. I think those are fictions created for a variety of reasons including good ones like socializing people to good behaviors like charity and faithfulness to bad ones like social control. Those are my beliefs, and I don't tend to share them with people because people get confused, scared, and insulted by atheists. Nobody like to be told their grandmother isn't actually in heaven.

I have faith in my beliefs and some theologists categorize the faith of atheists to be at the highest level as there are no long-term spiritual benefits (such as an afterlife) nor short-term benefits like a sense of community or meaning. We have to seek that out in other ways, though we do get to sleep in on Sundays.

However, I respect your faith in your beliefs whether they are Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, or whatever. If they give you clarity, make your life more meaningful, or make you a better person, I'm all for it. I've even gone to church with friends just to be a trooper and because I think frequently reevaluating one's own values and beliefs is important.

If your views are not harmful to others, I say good on you. There is no way any of us can know for sure because faith is an unproovable commodity. And while I believe what I believe, if you do think there is a heaven, I hope I'm wrong and you're right. :)
