Yeah, it is un-godly insane. Law enforcement requires hours and hours of training a month and what they would expect a teacher, in their free time to do the same?
Pfft, they only work until 3:00 AND get the entire summer off.

/I'd add a sarcasm tag, but the tag is sad about how many people believe this crap.

That video also debunks the theory that the local police did not have the equipment or numbers to deal with it. They had the body armor and the long guns. What they didn't have is the courage or sense of duty. They subdued a parent trying to get to their kid. Not the guy who was killing them.

I hope they never have a moment's peace for the rest of their lives. And they get that luxury. The kids they failed to help don't.

And I had hoped that today wasn't going to start with me being pissed off and hurt in my soul.

That Imbecile in the stetson in Abbott's press conference yesterday, the Public safety guy - I realize "imbecile in a stetson" isn't specific enough - said that the armed school resource officer engaged the suspect but wasn't able to stop him. Most people are saying the handgun the officer had probably wouldn't have stopped him.

But that's an analogue for the whole gun reform debate, isn't it? There is no one solution that will be 100% effective and the cowards who want to keep their fetish objects are using that as an excuse to do nothing at all. There is a chance that the resource officer could have stopped it. He could have at least tried. There is video of the shooter running into the school with the gun out in the open. There is no way the resource officer mistook the guy for anything but a guy in tactical gear and a large weapon. He chose not to even try to end it. 21 people are dead because of it.

Buffalo showed it might not work. An unarmed doctor subdued a shooter in a church in California, and prevented more people from dying. At least they tried. They didn't use any excuse. they fucking tried. WE HAVE TO TRY

That was last weekend, by the way.

There is no evidence to suggest that the shooter in Uvalde was a violent psychopath. That is just a standard trope that the Republicans go to (suggesting mental health issues). To be fair, mental health certainly does play a part in some of these shootings, but then every time that proposals are put forward to expand healthcare to provide people with access to mental health treatment, they are invariably shot down as socialized medicine and heaven forbid we actually attempt to try to help people that are struggling.

Couldn't you say that most people who commit atrocious, violent crimes are mentally unhealthy or a psychopath?

Essentially.....I have to acknowledge my own mental health issue and have to pay for it myself. Is the Republican way to solve this problem.

Also it is beyond BS that they care about expanding mental health research. If that was the case they wouldn't continue to sweep this under the rug:
