That's the exact Catch 22 though. And I mean that much more closely to the novel's specific use rather than the common use of the term today.

Their argument is essentially that it's a mental health issue because only someone with mental health issues would do this sort of thing. But in some cases - including, according to data available so far, this one - the only way to find out that the person has a mental health issue is to wait for them to do this sort of thing.

So they throw up their hands, spout off about mental health and evil, and then dodge "gotcha questions" about what we're supposed to do when there were no or limited warning signs.

/thumbs up for the Letterkenny though.
I am inferring that most criminals are mentally unhealthy and the problem is the easy availability of, amount of, and lack of education/licensing and insuring of guns...

We don't have enough mental health folks to take of all the damaged people in the US...but closing the loopholes to acquiring guns, adding licensing, and insurance on each gun, (like a car) would help. And not allow assault rifles for purchase period.

Perhaps. And all people are asking for is figuring out a way to stop such a person from getting a tool that will allow him to annihilate a room full of 10 year olds in 2 minutes.

And passing it all off as a mental health issue while doing nothing to treat mental health issues is AT BEST disingenuous. At worst it's orchestrated cruelty.
generous.

Abbott's first things he did as governor were
1. eliminate all background checks for guns in texas
2. cut $200million+ in mental health programs.

Does anyone else think that in the next 10-15 years, assuming the US makes it, there will be a serious push to end public education in the US?

I understand that the Democrats are going to run with the gun issue now and they've probably already done some internal polling that tells them that to try and push something through now would be less impactful at the ballot box than if they campaign on it through November and then try something next year but it's pretty shitty that Schumer's already said he won't try and get something passed to tackle this problem.

Because the next mass shooting (that the media will actually care about) is probably no more than three months away and it's going to be much harder to keep saying "well, vote for us in November and we'll fix it" when you can at least make an attempt today.

The more Biden keeps talking as if he has no power to do anything the less helpful this will be for them.

The other day I saw a post that said 2021 saw the number of people moving from ON to QC grow larger than the opposite direction for the first time since the 60's.

I wonder how long until they start fleeing back?

Biden can't even get Manchin and Sinema on board, how in the hell is he going to do anything about gun control?
Isn't there a purpose to getting them on record? And using the record to drive turnout in competitive races so that you don't have to rely on them next time?

Again, I'm quite certain they have internals that say this is the way to play this but with all do respect their internals lately have gotten them nowhere (See: Ultra MAGA). Give it a go.

Isnt the push already underway? The whole grooming / crt supposed debate is just a smokescreen for not wanting government to pay for the education of the poor and minorities

What if, in the state that these shootings happen in, the states are forced to pay lifetime college, and health benefits of all survivors from the schools where this happens

As of now most if not all areas pay school taxes no matter what. So even if they homeschool they still have to pay taxes as tied in with their property taxes

Also plenty of online programs are tied to the public school system so that is a route. These did exist before COVID.

The entire existence of Betsey DeVos was the opening salvo in that. She was put there specifically to disenfranchise people seeking secondary education and to push vouchers for "charter" schools. Which is a scheme to get families to "choose" for profit schools in shopping malls that don't have all those pesky standards. She is the child of the guy who came up with Amway after all. Her whole life is selling bullshit.

Just the money that Mitt Romney has taken from the NRA would cover all the survivors at Robb Elementary. And that's not to mention the other 25 who did too.
