I am inferring that most criminals are mentally unhealthy and the problem is the easy availability of, amount of, and lack of education/licensing and insuring of guns...That's the exact Catch 22 though. And I mean that much more closely to the novel's specific use rather than the common use of the term today.
Their argument is essentially that it's a mental health issue because only someone with mental health issues would do this sort of thing. But in some cases - including, according to data available so far, this one - the only way to find out that the person has a mental health issue is to wait for them to do this sort of thing.
So they throw up their hands, spout off about mental health and evil, and then dodge "gotcha questions" about what we're supposed to do when there were no or limited warning signs.
/thumbs up for the Letterkenny though.
We don't have enough mental health folks to take of all the damaged people in the US...but closing the loopholes to acquiring guns, adding licensing, and insurance on each gun, (like a car) would help. And not allow assault rifles for purchase period.
