Couldn't you say that most people who commit atrocious, violent crimes are mentally unhealthy or a psychopath?
It just seems to me to be a cover to distract and deflect from the biggest issue that refuses to be addressed which is the ease and availability to acquire guns in the United States. The worker who gets fired/laid off and then returns to shoot up his previous place of employment likely was doing fine just prior to this life changing event. If it's a lot more difficult to acquire a gun and that person has to settle for using a knife, the death toll is certainly lower.
In my opinion, there is also an acceptable culture in the US (and to be fair Canada as well) to settle conflicts/disputes etc. with violence. These conflicts tend to be a lot more deadly in the US due to the prevalence of guns.
