I had a power struggle with my bosses' boss at my last job because he had the mentality that if you offer employees training, they will eventually leave once they get better skills. Took me a while to convince him that people don't leave jobs, they leave bosses who don't recognize what they can and want to do. If someone is interested in the work, they will keep doing it. You make them do boring and unfulfilling shit, they leave. Money usually has little to do with it. And that it is far more expensive to hire someone from outside with the skills you need than it is to train someone from inside.

He was not too happy with me when I got legal to write it into our team charter that everyone on our team had to have valid and active certifications in forensics and the tools we use. He tried to go to executives to overrule legal. That didn't go well for him.

Similarly, I enjoyed the meeting where it was announced that he was "pursuing other opportunities"
Sounds like very similar management styles. If you did your job well, my old boss did everything he could to keep you right where you were. Including bad mouthing you to other managers.

It's amazing he got fired. It's sad it took so long.

A lot of my coworkers were either sad or pretended to be sad he was let go. Fuck that, my stock comment was "I wish him well but so glad he's gone".

It's funny, my whole working career and in a lot of ways my life changed when I went to see my team lead at the time and informed him that I was looking for a promotion in the next six months. If the promotion didn't happen, I would likely submit my two weeks notice. I had recently received training on SAP (specifically ABAP development within the SAP application) and was working with four other guys on the implementation of the software product. The other thing that fueled me at the time was the fact that a guy I worked with who didn't have near the skill set that I possessed and had been working at the company for less time that I had was just promoted to a level above me.

Suffice it to say, six months came and went and the promotion didn't happen. I went into my team lead's office and gave him my two weeks notice and he wasn't happy because two of the four guys I mentioned above had also left the project to pursue better opportunities. When I look back now, the best thing that happened to me was not getting that promotion.

Similar story. I was offered a “new” position where I would have managed this technical sales group. I had to even write up the job description and responsibilities. Only to be told a week later from my manager that I didn’t work for them anymore and that I will have a new manager announced tomorrow. Well good news was the new manager was someone i respected and worked well with. The bad news is they gave her essentially my job and others under her. So they gave her way too much responsibility and set her up to fail. Good news for me it gave me the writing on the wall to quit. So when I put in my two weeks. The manager who I just started for, we had an amazing working relationship prior and even then. She told me to tell our VP I am quitting. So I gladly did and he had the audacity to tell me that I couldn’t quit and he would promise me something in the future. I laughed at him and I said “oh like the other position?” He looked at me in a way he knew, that I knew he was bs’ing me.

That was the second best decision I ever made.

Worst decision I ever made during my career, was going to work for a dot bomb during that craze. Best decision I ever made was leaving that company 6 months later.

He should have went with DerringerEagle or BlueandWhiteForever or BlueWolfZero :D
At this point, fully 20% of active Twitter accounts are probably him.

"I say to you quite frankly that the time for racial discrimination is over. The test of a government is not how popular it is with the powerful and privileged few, but how honestly and fairly it deals with the many who must depend upon it."
Inaugural address as Governor of Georgia.
"It is time for the people to run the government, not the other way around."
Acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in 1976.

Shame an actor, paid for by oligarchs, managed to trade weapons to an enemy for hostages to win in 1980. I wonder how much would have changed if a person who had these core beliefs would have been in charge during the outbreak of the AIDS epidemic instead of the wanna be Nazi who just wanted all gay, black and poor people to die.
