Smith should follow Reid to the Chiefs. He could start right away and they have a good running game.

That's actually a plausible scenario that didn't exist until yesterday.

Smith better not. The patience of fans from NY is unparalleled to none. With no running game and his limitations as an accurate deep passer would be a train wreck for him in that environment.

I believe Smith is every bit as mentally tough as Mark Sanchez.....agree running game would have to improve. I could see Smith doing it because he'll have a huge chip on his shoulder. Not saying it will turn out well....just saying I think he'll follow Norv. After that, the KC scenario is interesting as well.

I'd love to see Smith there. And hey, seems like many ex 49er QB's end up in KC anyway!

For two reasons: One, it would be good for him and two, it would limit his opportunities to get back at the 49ers by beating them.

No doubt on the running game, but Chad Pennington was a pretty good and popular QB for the Jets and he was one of the worst deep throwers in NFL history. That said, I would agree that its not a great landing spot for him, probably not the best option for a cold weather environment and the fans might have unreasonable expectations.

Les Bowen: Indeed, Andy Reid has canceled other trips and is hashing out final details with KC, I'm told by a source involved in talks.

I'm absolutely shocked. Again, they must have told him exactly what he wanted to hear. Or else they took him somewhere like this for lunch.

Smith to the Chiefs would be interesting, in that one of the better comparisons to him might be Matt Cassel - a guy who can operate and thrive in a good offense like he did in NE, but was crushed by a bad offense in KC, which is probably the book on Smith as well.

Isn't his greatest credential that he did just that in Philly and turned them into a team that regularly contended for a decade or so?

But he did that coming off the gates though which would be normal or the "initiation" of becoming of HC. Not every coach candidate could chose where to go when being a HC. But with Reid's distinguish resume and experience, I would think he would do himself better by going to a team with less rebuild to it.

He's not in his 50s, or 40s where he could take the time to build up his program/team, I would think he would go off to a club where the pieces are there but the injection of a solid scheme/coach is needed.

OT - i think they should barr or prevent OC of current playoff teams from interviewing with open HC spots. I feel it could distract them from the real task at hand. I can't remember who was it, the OC for either the Falcons or NE said something along the lines of no interviewing since he wanted his full attention to the playoffs. I would luv to hear that.

Bob Glauber:

Source confirms reports that Andy Reid is close to a deal in Kansas City. Says Reid "would like that to happen." $hould know $oon.

Important to note re: Reid. With so many teams expressing interest besides Chiefs, still time for things to change. Leverage insanely high.

Shawn Zobel:

I'm being told that Andy Reid is in the process of signing a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. It's a done deal.

Good for Andy Reid. Take Tyler Wilson or Geno Smith first overall and run with it. The key will be which DC he picks for his defense.

O'Brien accepted the PSU job, but continued to coach the Pats through the Super Bowl.

The only problem with that is, it wouldnt have been fresh. He would have to heat it up in the microwave due to the fact the interview was at a private airport in philly
