If Seattle's good enough to win the division, then they are good enough to get to the super bowl. I feel sorry for SF here. They got screwed by this move.
It doesn't affect them.

Dont know what the debate is.

They made a move that makes their team better.
There is hardly a single move that jumps a team from ok to contender by itself. The point is to make moves to improve. I believe they did this.

I say it was a good move.

So 2 good pass rushers on the field together merely offset the 1 good pass rusher we had last year?

Please.

It's not 2 good pass rushers offsetting one but 2 decent pass rushers offsetting 1 good one.

Clark is a much better pass rusher than Clowney and Ziggy is the only one that maybe can come close if healthy but health is a major concern for him which is why nobody was really beating down his door to sign him.

Clowney is just a good overall player and is certainly an upgrade to the Seahawks but his reputation as a pass rusher is way overhyped.

Feels like it was just yesterday that people were singing the praises of Marsh and Clark.

Which Seahawk fans were singing the praises of Cassius Marsh and when? He hasn't played a game for the Seahawks in 4 years.

Sounds like someone want to re-invent history here.

Marsh was being touted as the next coming (stolen in the 4th round) a true PC type player. Had a good camp which led to a lot of hype. Broke a foot and never lived up to his billing. Finally had a decent season for the niners.

Yes he was tagged by many fans another early camp phenom.

Same with Clark. However, Clark was more productive and rightly so he was a 2nd round selection that never lived up to his initial hype. Good player don't get me wrong just not what many a fans had been claiming.

It's like fan fiction, but you're not a fan.

Not a fan of the Hawks you're correct there. Then again most 12s have only been fans for a couple years. :D

You have to remember not all the Hawk fans post on the hoop.

Marsh was at best a backup. He played at the time because they had no one on the roster better which was an indictment of the roster at the time on the 49ers

But 2 “decent pass rushers” is better than 1 good one since they are coming from opposite sides and 2 pressures > one sack. Clark was the more accomplished pass rusher but without question going into the offseason and flipping Clark into Ziggy and Clowney is an upgrade.

I would have to agree if Ziggy can stay healthy.

Well ya, that’s kind of this whole scenario. If we are talking about Ziggy doing his injury thing while Reed is out then Clowney at most is a wash with Clark. But for Clark’s franchise tag they have Ziggy and Clowney so as of right now it’s an upgrade.

It doesn't matter if they are coming from both sides if neither one can get pressure on a consistent basis.

If you get a healthy 14 sack Ziggy than you're talking about a net positive. But with Ziggy he's more likely to get hurt than stay healthy throughout the season.

Yes, it does matter. Having 2 guys out there means it's more likely one of them gets through since the offensive attention has to be spread out as opposed to isolating 1 threat like Frank Clark. There's a reason Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril thrived here when they were on the field at the same time. This really isn't that hard to figure out.

Again this only applies if they are good enough to command the attention of the offense in the first place. Ziggy maybe but Clowney doubtful unless that switch to a 4-3 end is a big boost to his pass rushing ability.

My argument isn't about numbers but about quality. Every defense has 2 guys out there they hope can get to the QB but very few of them have enough quality guys that can truly give an offense fits.

Frank Clark is a somewhat more effective pass rusher than Clowney but a MUCH weaker run defender. Clowney was 18th in the NFL in QB pressures last year so the notion that he was some slouch is dubious to say the least.

IF Clowney get 9-10 sacks and Clark get 13-15 sacks then Clowney is almost certainly going to be the more valuable player because he can hold the edge on run plays where as Clark can't. With Clark, Ansah, Ford and eventually Reed, the Seahawks have a front four that will create significant pressure on the QB. Last year the Seahawks pass rush was Clark and Reed and that was about it.
