I agree mostly with this list. I would place Freeman below Bradford, but I think last year might have too much influence on that. I'd switch Roethlesberger with Eli because I think Ben is on the downward. I think Vick will get injured, but that might not push him back if you're talking about all QBs as healthy. He's just been so unhealthy that it didn't seem right - but this is not a fantasy ranking. I think Stafford should be higher than Schaub, Vick, or Ryan. Probably higher than Romo and Rivers.

I'd switch Alex and Cam and I would drop Schaub to 10+, lower Matt Ryan a bit (postseason might bias me). Rivers could be higher, but I think he needs to win and limit INTs before it really matters. But that's a great list. The top three might switch around a bit for me and Stafford would be higher than Eli for me. (For the record, I didn't change your list above.)(I should have ranked Stafford higher in my previous post.)

Last season, Rivers had 25 turnovers (25 ints + 5 fumbles lost). He almost turned the ball over as many times as he threw a TD pass. If Rivers is considered a top 10 QB then Matt Schaub is definitely a top ten QB.

I would have Rodgers and Brees ahead of Brady.

Big Ben is too high and I would put him in the 6-10 range.

Stafford is too low and I think I would put him at #5. I can't understand how he has guys like Vick, Ryan, Romo, and Rivers ahead of him.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I think Gabbert is too low judging from how he's looked in preseason. I would rank him ahead of the Skelton/Kolb combo at this point.

Other than that I don't really see any major issues with the list.

I had Smith around 16, so yes he's average. There are enough things he does below average to mute some of the above average things. I'd put Alex at average, but I'd put him ahead of Fitzpatrick.

Yeah, if 13 is elite in 2012, 16 will be elite in 2015 if you factor in inflation. In 2031, the NFL will only have elite starters. Hopefully by then we will have added a super elite group where 4-5 are in. By 2018 if Alex is still playing, he'll be one of the 19 elite quarterbacks.

If the mindset is that Stafford needs to prove himself for say 2 more seasons before he earns elite top-5 status, then I'm OK with that. But, If they just think he is carried by Megatron then they can go suck a dick. The difference between the Lions with a healthy Stafford in 2011 compared to him being hurt the previous two years is astronomical. Bottom line, Stafford makes them Super Bowl contenders... that makes him elite in my book.

For Alex, way to go!!! You're not 32 anymore!! woot woot

I would say no too, because Alex Smith doesn't make the offense go.

I could put Eli, Brees, Brady & Rodgers in just about any order as the top 4 guys going, but I expect Rivers to bounce back eventually. He was the best QB in the NFL over a 4 or 5 year stretch IMO. And he got screwed by the ref's in '08 against the Pats.

I don't see how Aaron Rodgers isn't #1 at this point.

I also wouldn't put Alex over Cam Newton, Joe Flacco, or Andrew Luck at this point either.

What? Are the two even comparable? Stafford had 24 more TDs and almost 2,000 yards more than Alex. I'm sure the difference between the teams without each player in the lineup is quite different.

yes, its different.

but just for discussions sake..............is it necessarily "quite different"?

i'll use an illustration...Matt Flynn in his last start with Green Bay. was Green Bay's offense that much different with Flynn playing, vice Rodgers?

now take Detroit, the offensive skill players are pretty good all around. if the back-up starts in place of Stafford, is it "quite different"? it'll be different but will it be 'quite different'? why would it be quite different...because of Stafford's "passing arm", or because he understands their scheme better?

i'm not claiming otherwise, just throwing it out for further thought.
