Just depends on how they have graded him out. If Scot believes that he is a true franchise QB, then of course you take him. You never pass on a franchise QB, especially when the QBs you have on your roster have major questions. But realistically, Mairota also has to have questions so my guess is that he is muddying the waters for potential trade targets.

I would have a very hard time processing this if it were true. Not big on MM, I think he is yet another system QB. But I also understand the chances of either of our QBs actually turning into the type of QB who can carry the team for decade is pretty much 1% and you need a QB.

In the end while I don't think it will happen if it does I will support any pick SM makes, he knows more than we do.

Like I keep saying we should put word out there that we are interested in taking a Mariota if he falls to us. We will get a better trade. If we actually do take Mariota and don't trade him it seriously won't be the worst pick we ever made. We don't have a QB on our roster who has proven he can either win games or stay healthy. I'm not sure we could even find a trade partner. I mean the Eagles just gave up a #2 for Bradford. Can't see them doing that if they are trying to move up.

Agree with J. If those in power think he's your franchise QB you make the move and draft him. It's probably the most important position in any team sport. You kind of have to let go of what happened in the psat and who is already on the roster. As it stands we can't count on RG3 or Cousins right now.

Don't think this is a smokescreen. What advantage do we have in making people think we want him? Instead of driving the price up with us, they would just talk to someone ahead of us. Maybe they are hoping someone jumps ahead of them so they get one of the other top players in the draft in their laps at #5.

I think the Browns are a best bet to trade up, they have 2 1st round picks and with Hoyer gone, and Manziel in his rubber room, Mariota makes sense. Plus the Browns do a lot of stupid things. Redskins GM may be able to fleece them.

Clayton reiterating on The Sports Fix this morning that SM strongly believes that this is a QB driven league.

Looking at this scenario...

If SM believes that the answer to QB doesn't lie on our roster in Griff and Cousins, and believes there may be no solution thru the draft at a quality QB in the next few years...I could totally see taking MM at 5 myself.

Not me. I truly don't believe that they will pick him. However - if they do then it will probably mean that over the last several months nothing has really changed & they believe that neither RG3 nor Cousins will ever amount to much. Again though - I really doubt that this will be the pick.

It's got to be more than that. They also have to believe that Mariota is a franchise QB. The worst thing that can happen is for us to draft Mariota and we end up with 3 flawed QBs.
