he threw 14 pitches per inning. 99 for the game. 0 ER, 1 walk, 10 k's over 7...isnt enough? thats about all a pitcher can do for shits sake.

sale averages 103 pitches...so not sure where the "cant throw 100 pitches" is from.

Pitchers can throw more than 7IP. I see it every night.

his issue this year was they coddled the staff TOO much in spring. sale normally goes 20-22 IP. he had 9. same with porcello and others.

backfired, bad start.

Starting them in spring training a month later than usual was not a good idea.

Are they factoring in "openers" as starters?
to be valid youd have to include them, but we can separate if need be.

And Chris Sale is not just your "average" starter. So comparing him with the entirety of MLB is assuming that Sale is just your average player.

I would expect that to really do this comparison fairly, he should be compared against the other players in the league who are considered the elite.

How do his IP/Start compare to guys like Verlander, Scherzer, Giolito, Montas, Ryu, Greinke, Castilla, etc? That's the number we ought to be looking for.

I don't see that as valid, they're not starters. Either way I don't really care, these days there's a lot of factors that makes the number of pitches meaningless. For instance, the Yanks take out starters early quite a bit when they're doing well but with that bull pen it's part of their strategy. Teams with terrible bullpens will try to get the extra inning out of the starter. And then there's Baltimore who just picks people out of the crowd to start the game.

Which is why it seems fair to say that Sale didn't give his team enough to win last night.

Milwaukee seems to use a "good all out" with their starters. 20-23 batters Work counts throw a lot of pitches. But then their bullpen is better than their starters so we just need the starter to get through the 5th.

When talking about the lack of run production when Degrom pitched last year Todd Frazier had the best line, "We play behind this guy like we hate him".

He went 7 and gave up 1 run and left with the lead. I'm not gonna put this one on him. This one is on the pen.

With a pen like that 5 is all you need.

Always been a stand up guy. Far too rare in pro sports nowadays if you ask this gentleman.

Very rare indeed. Dude has every reason to throw teammates far under the bus but doesn't

Speaking of which, I am glad I checked my email this morning. I am getting the ball Saturday. I would love it if you could be there to support me. I haven't thrown a baseball since I was 13 but the Orioles said they were okay with that
