Can someone please tell me why he wasnt a Laker?? I just want to know why david stern wouldnt allow this to happen? Was it because he was scared that his miami heat might lose? Please explain.

It was a 3 way deal where the Lakers got CP3, the Rockets got Pau Gasol and the Hornets got absolutely nothing

The problem here was that the league office was ever in the position to be running one of its franchises. Had they not taken charge, Stern would not have been in this position. Clearly the proposed deal was not in the best interest of the Hornets and Stern made sure it did not happen. His involvemet was a conflict of interest, but the decision to cancel the trade was best for the Hornets franchise.

Oh, and CP3 would not have miraculously cured all of the Lakers' issues.

I think Stern got tired of seeing teams just hand over their talent to the Lakers for nothing. The Pau Gasol trade probably still pisses him off from when Jerry West was GM in Memphis.

I actually think Memphis got the better end of that deal in the long run. Marc>>Pau.

Not sure how they got the better end since it led to the Lakers winning two titles.

Jerry West understood that without a full rebuild, Memphis was going nowhere. They gave away their best player for pennies on the dollar, but without going through that process, they would not be where they are today.

The Hornets side of the CP3 trade with the Lakers was so terrible because it ensured that they would be mired in mediocrity for the foreseeable future. Now, they at least have some pieces and premium picks to build around.

It was a horrible trade that would have gave the Hornets a bunch of salary eating players that would keep them in continuous 8th seed hell. The Clippers trade was much better.

Its hard to go on the 'what if' train with the Grizzlies because their roster dictated some of their awful draft picks (like Thabeet over Harden, Curry, etc) but also gave them flexibility to bring in Zbo

Yeah, the trade that brought Pau to the Lakers looked very one sided at the time. However, I think that can be put to rest now and it has become a trade that truly has benefitted both teams.

It did clearly benefit the Lakers more because they were able to win championships before the Heat were formed. But its not really any worse than the KG trade at this point.

It benefitted the Lakers more at the time. Memphis wasn't going to win a title Pau anyway. Now, with Marc, they have a chance. They have also won more playoff games and advanced farther in the playoffs with Marc than they ever did with Pau!!

In the end, it benefits both teams, it just benefitted the Lakers sooner!!
