TORONTO (August 19, 2011) – Chris Drury announced his retirement today from the National Hockey League (NHL) following a 12-year career.

After being drafted by the Quebec Nordiques with the 72nd pick in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, Drury went on to play 892 career NHL games with four different teams (Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers).

Some will say he already hung them up once he signed that fat contract with the Rags.

wow that is a little surprising.

The guy made some good cabbage during his career, and he needs to think about life after hockey. You could see the writing on the wall when that lovetap from Glencross took him out of the lineup with a concussion.

I always liked him.

Not the fastest or strongest player on the ice, but the smartest. He scored some pretty clutch goals.

I'll never forget him in this game:

Ottawa Senators vs. Buffalo Sabres - Recap - May 19, 2007 - ESPN

Another loser was the NHL, which lost its national U.S. over-the-air TV audience when NBC dropped its coverage of the game to show the Preakness Stakes just before overtime. The end of Ottawa's victory was broadcast instead on Versus, the league's main cable rightsholder that reaches far fewer homes than NBC.

Drury required 11 stitches after being struck on the chin by teammate Tim Connolly's point shot midway through the third period. Drury didn't return until 2 minutes into overtime.

It was a slapper to the mouth.

So it could be down to Gaborik or Richards for the captaincy. #Awkward

for those that don't know:

Playing for his hometown baseball team from Trumbull, Drury pitched a complete game, 5-hitter and drove in two runs to win the 1989 Little League World Series championship game against Chinese Taipei

also funny - if Drury had retired two months ago, he would have saved the Rangers $3.76 mill cap space this year, and $1.67 mill in 2012-13

This....... His play dropped off the last couple of years. Good luck Chris, a really good guy.

I'd be really surprised if he wasn't coaching in the next year or so. He's just one of those guys that gives me that vibe.

Always found the guy kind of boring. Nothing personal against him, just never cared much for him.
