Looks like the Celtics took the less sexy and less costly route...

The cost appears to be 2 2nd round draft picks.

Fournier is on the last year of a $17 million contract... so there are no long-term financial implications of this move.

I'm modestly pleased. We really needed a guy who can put the ball in the basket... (we have too many spare parts who can't consistently)... Fournier fits that bill.
Celtics definitely got better today.

I agree. That said: losing Theis stings.

Our roster needed a Fournier more than it needs a Theis, though.
Meh. From afar I was never impressed. At the same time, a matchup vs Embiid (which is when I usually watch a whole Celtics game instead of just parts and highlights) is not a spot for a player like Theis to shine.

That's the thing about Theis. He usually did much better than one would expect... even against the Embiid's of the world.

Particularly for what he was paid, Theis was quite a find.

The only time Theis really got exposed was against Bam last year.

I dont get the logic in dumping Theis. Guess they like what Williams is doing?

The only "logic" is saving money and ownership limbo-ing under the luxury tax line.

Like I said earlier... it sucks, but it is a real world consideration and... it is what it is. :noidea:

Celtics will probably be a player in the buy-out market and look to pick-up a cheap, veteran big.

I didn’t see the Celtics re-upping him and the deal keeps them out of the luxury level. That’s huge in a season with no fans in the stands until recently.

Was just thinking that on the buyout market

yeah the bench comes down to Romeo and grant taking a step forward.

they badly need someone else to take out Philly to have any shot at making a run.

So ultimately the Celtics ended up giving up 30 and theis to avoid the tax line.

Fournier is a decent pick-up... and most definitely fills a gaping need in terms of consistent bench scoring.

TBH I am not that knowledgeable on his abilities. Time will tell

Fournier is a very skilled offensive player. He can do several things well... he's not "just a shooter."

He's a marginal defender... but at least he has some length (6'7").

Again, **theoretically**, we **should** have a pretty great offense. We just gotta mesh and get organized... (and maybe just maybe our lead dogs **cough, Tatum** need to tone down their 'go one-on-one and then take a tough shot' tendencies).

Man this team sucks

Its always something with this team.
They haven’t had everyone available for a single minute this season.

but yes it’s frustrating.

the good news is kemba seems to be back.

the bad news is, it’s not mattering.

the athletic has an article that says the big 4 (kemba, smart, brown, Tatum) are a huge negative when sharing the floor. That demands a big shakeup this offseason

I don't think we could give Edwards away. :D

I have to say, I remember that draft really well. That was the draft that the Sixers traded up to get Matisse Thybulle and basically gave you the pick for Edwards.

There is a popular Sixers podcast called the Rights to Ricky Sanchez and the hosts were BLASTING the Sixers for that move. And they weren't "wrong" per se. Elton Brand telegraphed their intentions. And one of the guys LOVED Edwards. But sometimes you just make the move to get the best player you can get and not worry about amassing picks.

Everyone loved Edwards shooting ability but I think they forgot that it is really hard to be a small shooter in the NBA.

Some pan out... some don't. Thems the breaks sometimes.

What's weird about Edwards is he looked really good in his first Summer League... then for a couple of preseason games too... then...

... dude just fell off the earth.
