He just may be right this time. Do you have any proof at all that the city of Cleveland's economy isn't better than it was say just one year ago as an example or are you just talking your usual anti Cleveland everything nonsense?

cleveland just landed the Republican nationa convention- thats not something they would give to an awful city.

I lived downtown in '07- the year the Indians made the ALCS- I was a 10 miinute walk from the park and went to a ton of games.

Ill tell ya- downtown was dead back then. You couldnt find a place to buy a burger after 9 o clock on a weekday. The Warehouse district was the only place to go out and it was still in its fledgling state.

Now I go to school downtown and the differences are just staggering. East 4th is beautifull and a great place to go out. The Warehouse district is thriving. The half billion dollar Medical Mart and adjoining convention center is now operational and making Cleveland a center of bio-tech in the whole nation together with the Cleveland Clinic- which is arguably the best hospital system in teh world- Of course the RockHall ahs been open for a while now- and all 3 major sports stadiums are downtown and are relatively new and have under gone majro renovations- Progreessive Field is an absolute jewell and it overwent some pretty awesome renovations over the winter. Gilbert invested hundreds of millions to bring the casinoto downotwon- and public square- which used to be BumCentral- is cordoned off tounder go a renovation that will be beautifull and ready for the Republican Convention. The city goverrnment is consolidated now in a beatiful building on E9 right by Progressive Field in a complex that was long dormant. Apartment occupancy rates are over 90% and new ones are being developed- and something happened that i never thought would- and was a PAIN IN THE ASS when i lived downtown- there was absolutely NO GROCERY STORES - just a few months ago A heinens just opened up in the rotunda building on E9. the East Bank of the flats was leveled- and rebuilt with Earnst and Youngs brand new hundred million dolalr buildings with apartments and restraunts- the Westbank is a ghost town though- with only Shooters and Christies open- and the Flats in the 80's and early 90's USED to be the place to go ut- now everything ismoe centralized in downtown.

I ll tell ya- in '07 the city was dead. The complex i lived in was in a area that was supposed to be relatively safe- until 2 male nurses from CCF tried to buy a dime bag- and were led into a dimly lit park across the street and put ontheir knees and shot in the back of the head execution style. Needless to say i did not renew my lease.

Now- its just a totally different story. Its actully amazing to me. THIS did not exist in Cleveland in '07 I will tell ya that.

Where the city really screwed up was not making the Browns stadium a dome when they built it for the "new" Browns. Its ridiculous to see Indianapolis get so many cool events- Final 4's, Super Bowls, etc- when Cleveland could have gotten in on that action- and instead spent all that money on a facility that gets used for 10 games a year and afew concerts here and there

The Medical Mart is very interesting. Its leveraginings Clevelands medical expertise between CCF and Uniersity Hospitals, and its industrial base- to become a center for innovation, techonlogy, conferences, sales, etc. Its the first one in the country- and between the medical Mart at almost 1/2 billion AND the new convention center- its a huge investment . Cleveland Clinic- is right up there with Mayo and johns Hopkins in the US- and the Clinic has installations all over the country- and the world- Vegas, Florida, Dubia - its an interesting concept. Its near public square- right where the Casino was put in- and public square USED To be a shit hole- today i had to go to the justice center to file documets and i ran into a boatload of shit traffic because public square is totally shut down - they are getting rid of the through streets and putting in green space and walkways that will connect the warehouse district and East 4th/Progresive field/Quicken Loans arena......im not trying to make anyone think anything they dont want to think- and id be the first to tell ya if downtown was as bad as it was in 07....it sucked- then- you were a prisoner inyour own apartment during the week- and eventhe weekend scene was not great. Its just a totally different scene now. East 4th especially has a bunch of high end restraunts- Michael Simon- iron chef from the Chew- has a few restraints that are awesome down there. Its actually really strange to see after being used to only going downtown for sporting events and then leaving for most of my life-

If he's just saying that it's on the comeback, he's not wrong. If he's saying that it rivals NYC, he's a walking shit show.
oh God no...Cleveland does not beling in the same stratosphere of NY.

but the differences in downtown between all the investment in new apartments/condo's, restaraunts, new hotels (a huge new hotel is going up on lakeside by the justice center), casino, med mart, grocery stores, CSU going from a commuter campus to a more residential campus withhuge investment, stadium renovations, - is really jus staggering

and to be honest with you- if you are more my age- the downtown scene is more for the early 20's scene in the warhouse district--- people that are alittle older that still like to go out and have a little cash usually go to East 4th- or outside downtown onW25 at Ohio City or Tremont- Market Garden, Great Lakes Brewery, etc....

the difference between now and just like 10 years ago is insane- you are an old clevelander slinky- "The Flats" used to be the place to go out- now the flats are office buildings and apartments on the east bank- and no one goes out there anymore- its all in the stadium district( e4), warehouse district if you are dtown- or tremont/ohio city if you are just outside of downtown.

It would easier to simply record the lectures than replay them and take notes at the same time.

1. You are 100% correct about the Browns stadium.

2. Downtown is much improved, but it's crowded restaurants/bars and a casino.
That's for sure nice for a certain crowd, but for most people who live in the suburbs 15-20 miles away, whose going there?
I'd rather go to Northfied Park.
