Pedro warms.

Excellent.

Also, Frankie must look really good if he's struck out 8 through 5 and only thrown 70 pitches to do it.

First time i am able to see Pedro at first. Is this his first game there? If not how has he looked?

Think he is on game 4 at first, looking much better. His first game was very shaky.

It's weird because he hovers between dominant and about to blow up 3 to 4 times within the same start.

Any reason Liriano was pulled after just giving up an infield single? Pitch count?

I hate it when a guy gets pulled because he gave up a "hit" when it didn't leave the infield. That doesn't tell you he's done. If the ball's hit sharply, sure, but if it was actually hit so softly that there wasn't a play, I just don't see how that's a bad sign.

Especially the way Liriano was pitching for most of the night tonight.

Not sure, like I said a few posts ago he's been wobbly but still getting great results tonight, my guess is Clint didn't think he would bounce back from that last wobble, if that makes sense.

Especially it being such a close game.

I don't question Hurdle's choice to remove Liriano at that point. He was at 90 some pitches for the game, and Hughes has been brilliant this season.

What I do question is Clint's decision not to call on either Wilson or Watson to face the pinch hitting lefty Jon Jay with two outs and runners on first and second, after Hughes walked Carpenter. That's seemingly a no brainer.

They pull their guy for a lefty bat, so you pull your reliever for a left-handed arm to eliminate any advantage they might have in a very close ballgame. That's a seemingly no-brainer decision, yet it's one that Clint very often seems to mismanage.

Nice to see Davis come in and get a clutch HR like that.

So I missed it earlier how bad is McCutchen or is it precautionary?

Especially when your righty relies on a pitch which is, leaguewide, not very effective against opposite-handed batters.

raise it and another key series win.
first brewers, then cards.
this was especially nice to see after they blew frankies gem then almost gave away coles with cutch and pedro falling, things might have seemed bleak, but they comeback last nite and get a great game from locke.

the cards really can't hit LH, and are a poor offense this year.

now we have a stretch of poor teams to really go on a streak (with another 3 wit the cards next week)

this is our chance to continue the mo, we have people getting and staying hot, and cole is back to anchor with frankie setting to nuzzle in as #2 instead of #1.

Back-to-back huge series victories. Beating Wainwright felt extra good, too.

Raise it!

Can't argue with 4 out of 6 against the two teams ahead of you in the division.
