yah it sounds like Vigneault will end up coming back (if he wants to! which is another question)... Gillis repeated his question from the press conference he had after the canucks were eliminated asking why everyone wants to run Vigneault out of town after all the "success" of the past couple of years

I think everybody is waiting

San Jose is waiting
Chicago is waiting
Vancouver is waiting

because if one of these teams makes a move and fires their coach ... the others in the queue will be firing theirs and youll see a coaching carousel

And I think that question holds more weight now than it did in that presser. Then, people thought they went soft, bad coaching etc. But then watching the Kings destroy a damned good St. Louis team with a strong Jack Adams candidate behind the bench, I think a lot of people have reconsidered whether AV had anything to do with it or whether they just rant into a buzzsaw.

you can definitely point to the lack of preparation for game 1 v the Kings ... but game 2 ... the players didnt execute and the canuck train was off the tracks

I would suggest the Nucks have had 22 playoff wins since the Flames have had their last one,
but then you would bring up 1 Cup vs 0 Cups, and we'd both end up sad.

BobMac was on team1040 saying he thinks the Preds might look to trade Weber to the Sharks if they cant sign him to an extension in the next 2 months

I keep thinking if I say/type this enough it will happen. Weber for Burns and the 18th overall draft pick for the rights to Weber. Sharks then sign Weber to a 7 year, $52.5M contract.

The Sharks had one more playoff win than the Flames too.....and a worse draft pick. :L

Ouch, 22 to 1, that puts things in perspective. Yeah, the Cup win is nice, but that was in the last millenium, what have you done for me lately?

Gardiner is the key - whoever has him will get Schultz as well. All rumours should include Gardiner.

However, none of the options will induce more drooling and dreaming throughout the Lower Mainland than any opportunity this team may have to trade for Shea Weber.

If the discussion about whether Mattias Ohlund should be in the Ring of Honour underscored anything, it’s just how deprived the Canucks have been of great defencemen. It’s hard to believe, after 40 years, the question of “who is the Canucks’ best blueliner of all time?” is boiled down to Jyrki Lumme vs. Ohlund.

You think this town is desperate for a true No. 1?

Weber is that type of player, the one the Canucks have forever lacked and coveted. But is it even possible?

Well, it just became at least plausible with the Predators disastrous second-round flame out. Ryan Suter is set to leave, and many people believe he will. Those around his situation claim he has a list of teams he wants to play for and Nashville isn’t on it.

If he does go, it backs the Predators into a corner. They haven’t been able to sign Weber to a long-term deal, and if that continues it’s either sign him for one year as a restricted free agent or trade him and try to retool on the fly.

That last option instantly means a treasure trove of assets will be coming back to Nashville in return. But would the Canucks have enough gold to barter with and win the auction?

There’s always Ryan Kesler, but he’s damaged goods, again, right now. Kevin Bieksa is locked up with a no-trade clause. Jannik Hansen is an intriguing option, and maybe the Canucks’ most intriguing. But he’s an add-on.

They do have Alex Edler, and the Predators would be hard pressed to find a better defenceman in a deal. His budget salary, $3.25 million, just oozes Nashville. But Edler is only signed for one more year and then he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Not much chance the Predators trade Weber for a player who could be gone in a year.

Nashville would have to get some kind of commitment from him before any deal. That won’t be easy.

But we’re wildly speculating about a dream offseason where the Canucks trade Luongo for assets and acquire both Weber and Shultz. Of course it won’t be easy.

I thought Hodgson would be a key piece to a deal like that. I just dont see us having the pieces for him now. I also think that the point on Edler is off a bit. why would anyone want to give up the farm for Weber if HE is gone in one year. why would it be fair only one way.

Would Edler, Hansen and a 1st round pick be enough? Hansen would flourish in Nashville and Edler is a Preds salary guy for sure. I can't see him making more than $5M a year without a massive spurt in talent next year.

What the Canucks really need are for the other teams in the NW division to give them a challenge. It's been such a cakewalk for them winning the division title the last few seasons that they aren't battle tested once the playoffs start.
