idk what PM's cap hit was this past season, but imo DEN had enough talent on both sides of the ball to win it all. They simply did not perform well vs IND and that imo was largely why Fox was run.

To your point...it's proven that to be a consistent playoff caliber team, you need a good QB. If DEN goes with Osweiler, not saying it will happen, but the fan base has to be prepared to be 8 to 10 win type team '15 and let him grow into the position. That might be a little tough to take after 3 yrs of PM, but it could be the right move long term.

You are right this team was loaded enough to make a nice run at the championship. I will say the one area that we failed big time though was the OL and in the end it is what cost us big time. The team gambled that we did not really need to update with the hopes of somebody stepping up that was an unknown and it didn't happen. This past year was definitely the Broncos best shot in most of our top young players were still on rookie deals that were having them ridiculously underpaid. This next year though with so many of our top players needing new contracts I don't think we have that luxury as much this season. That is why I am a little more torn this year compared to last in we are going to have to let some talent walk and I am not sure unless we either work some more magic with the Cap or just draft out of our minds that this team in the upcoming season will be as talented as last years. Now we might be better just because we updated the coaching staff and that alone could make the difference but I have reached a point that I am almost ready to just see what we have with Osweiler and live with the consequences. I understand expectations have to be lowered in that situation and that probably won't be easy after 3 straight years of being a top team in the league but long-term sometimes you have to take a step back to take 3 steps forward.

I think that coming up short each of the past three years, not just the playoff loss to Indy this year, is why Elway fired Fox.

I agree with you that Denver is not likely to contend this year if Osweiler is our starting QB, though that might be in the best long term interest of the team.

Finally, I'm not at all sure that Elway is prepared to take a chance on winning only 8-10 games if he thinks that we have a chance to contend by bringing Mannng back.

Well, if they are going to run the same thing that they have been running, then I am not so sure why there was a coaching change, what the difference in opinion was between Fox and Elway in regards to taking it to the next level or why Elway would hire Kubiak whose system he is all too familiar with.

Elway hiring Kubiak is the biggest sign of which direction he believes the team needs to go in order to build a championship. I am guessing he is thinking BALANCE. That is the key with Kubiak. Not so much the stretch run west coast system, but BALANCE. When I say balance, I am talking about an offense that has the QB under center more than in shotgun.

That, is not Manning. Plus, I am not sure if you watched like we all watched the absolute disgusting play Manning was engaged in. Now, you may buy into the injured quad thing. Look, if it was as injured as they inferred after the Colts game, then how in the world is there no limping in his gate? He was not limping in the game. They claimed he injured it on Dec. 16th which was one month AFTER the abortion against the Rams. There was no talk about his quad in the super bowl where he played WORSE than he did against the Colts.

So, what I cannot tell is this from Broncos fans. Do you want the Manning system that we have seen for 3 seasons that have put up great fantasy football numbers cause you believe Manning's display during the second half of the season was an anomaly? You believe Manning can just light it up and pass for 5000 yards with the offense being in shotgun 65% of the plays? You think Manning will be comfortable under center with at lease one RB behind him?

I am confused at this point. I am confused about what I want. I confused how I think about Manning. I am confused what offense I want him to run. What I am not confused about is the type of offense that does typically win it all, and it is not what Manning has been running for the last 3 seasons, even though it has brought great success.

I.....just....do...not....know.

There is huge difference is getting KUBIAK NOW vs. keeping Fox when it is obvious that he cannot prepare a team for winning big games.. to say that this decision means Elway is done with Manning is premature to say the least.. I mean no offense when I say bud, YEAH I was watching with the rest of "us" in the last game as I was all season long since 1988.. I think you saying "you don't know how you feel about Manning" says more to your perception than Elway saying many time he wants Manning back.. If you want him gone just say it, but Elway is thinking about now and long term so why pass up the chance to grab Kubiak and while giving Manning this last season. Do you really think Brock coming in is going to win us the Super Bowl THIS year... HELL NO.. This is Manning's job if he decides it for himself..

Know exactly what you mean Reap but I think I would rather have the Oz experiment begin behind a Kubiak offense than have to pay Manning a ton this yr, losing cap space for improvements and then being one and done with a beat up Manning again. Now if Manning does restructure, etc to free up more money to get the help Denver needs on both sides of ball, then I`ll just have to jump on board because that`s what we`ll have to live with for 2015. Personally, I hope Manning retires. I would rather find out what Denvers future "can be" down the road, than a one and done repeat of last yr. Also, who`s to say Manning comes back with paycut and Oz beats him out as the starter???? Maybe they give Oz split time reps with 1st team like he`s rarely gotten, and he out performs and fits the Kubiak system better than Peyton. Ya never know.......

I found an article that I posted in another spot that showed having a franchise quarterback at franchise quarterback money hasn't done well in the past for teams. Almost every single high paid quarterback that has won the Super Bowl has done so before they got the huge pay day. Most of them were under 10% of the Cap Space. A Super Bowl just jumps up price big time for these guys and limits a team's ability to build great depth and afford quality starters to surround the player with.

Having said all that I am torn. I do think Manning can come back and give us a great shot at a title but at the same time I do wonder if we have seen the highest of his ability to take this team to where he has and unfortunately that is short of a championship. I keep thinking what the Broncos could do with that extra $16 or so million in extra cap space. That could be them signing Suh to add some real nastiness to our DL or that could be us signing two very high quality OL players on top of our own FA's that we want to resign. So then that would mean either we have one of the most loaded defenses or we go from one of the worst OL's in football to possibly one of the better in a real hurry and give Osweiler a nice chance to succeed with a strong running game and some great protection up front.

LOL, I just heard this on my ride home from work tonight. It was a very interesting stat! It is shocking to hear that this pretty much is true.

I think Manning can come back but he will not be the same QB he once was... If his last few games are any indication of that then he is in trouble. I am thinking he was hurt more than he let on though.

I would not want to be in the Broncos head office with this one.
If the Patriots played tough with the money - no one would be shocked - maybe not even offended.
If the Broncos do't squeeze the money out of Peyton - they are paying too much.
If they do squeeze him out of the game - they will look like jerks.....
