I've always blamed Welker 100%. I think he could have caught the ball even though it required an elevated degree of difficulty. I also think there more to this than the footage shows.

The routes used require adjustment, depending on the defense. That's why "being on the same page" is a term you hear often regarding a QB and receiver. On that play the safety was on the right so Welker needed to turn to his left. If he had turned to his left the ball would not have been high (Welker contorting himself gave the illusion the ball was high) and would have hit Welker in stride.

Brady is throwing to where he expects his receiver to be based on the defense, not an exact established route. I think he did that on the play.

To recap, I assign the blame 0% Brady, 30% Welker drop, 70% Welker being in the wrong place based on the coverage.

Sorry Mojo and JDM... I see your points but think your missing the bigger picture.
