Is that after athletic department total expenses are subtratcted from the revenue totals? If it is "net", then the athletes will be making payments TO the university instead of receiving one FROM the university. Most athletic departments don't operate in the black.

The article states 15% of revenue, not profits. This should limit efforts from ADs to fudge expenses to reduce payments to athletes.

I don't think private schools even have to "fudge" on expenses since they are not subject to most FOI items. While ADs at public shools might "fudge" by inflating expenses (and I wouldn't put it past them), most (if not all) are subject to FOI/Open Records request. Granted, that would be a pain in the ass to requests all expense records, but a person that wanted to could receive it.

So, if I'm understanding the NY proposal correctly, if a school's total athletic revenue is $10,000,000, $1.5 million must be distributed to athletes. And if said school's total athletic expenses are $15,000,000 their deficit turns into -$6.5 million instead of -$3.5 million. Would that be correct?

If you are including the expenditures to the athletes as part of the $15MM then that is correct. Note that the bill is still a ways from becoming law.

Deficits are usually made up through increased student fees, tuition, etc. I can't imagine a legislature/assembly, etc offloading that additional expense to the backs of students...or their expense paying parents.

Well, except the Texas Legislature. They are real good at it. They always fly the flag of "holding the line on state taxes" while passing unfunded mandates the locals have to pay for.

You are conflating the NY bill with the California bill.

The California bill allows for athletes to earn money off of their likeness.

The NY bill also requires athletes to be given a percentage of the athletic department revenues.

Also, let's be honest. If both measures become law, other states will follow.

This thread is exactly about the California bill and only California schools being able to what would amount to recruiting advantages.

You know exactly what we are talking about here.

Definition of satellite

1: a hired agent or obsequious follower : MINION, SYCOPHANT
2a: a celestial body orbiting another of larger size
b: a manufactured object or vehicle intended to orbit the earth, the moon, or another celestial body
3: someone or something attendant, subordinate, or dependentespecially : a country politically and economically dominated or controlled by another more powerful country
4: a usually independent urban community situated near but not immediately adjacent to a large city

Feel free to show where an antenna that picks up the free, over-the-air stations is a satellite.

A satellite dish is a parabolic antenna.

Feel free to admit you were wrong.

This thread is about California trying to pass this bill. Stop acting like anyone here cares about most of the SUNY universities that aren’t division 1-A. The reason this bill gets brought up is because of the unfair recruiting advantages in football and basketball. No one gives a shit about division 3 soccer in ny.

No one was talking about satellite dishes. The entire conversation was about over-the-air broadcast television...it had absolutely nothing to do with satellite dishes.

It absolutely has everything to do with satellite dishes you dumbfuck. You even stated it when you brought up cable, dish or antenna. But I can see you are too chicken shit to admit you’re wrong.

Then stick to responding to posts about the CA bill, and avoid responding to those about the NY bill...you seem to be too stupid to understand the difference.

Of course you are a WV fan, so that goes without saying.

So my question was right on point about how many division 1 athletes it had. Unless of course you want to argue about the likelihood this is about division 2 and 3 college sports.

An shut the fuck up, you’re a pansy ass bandwagon bitch.
