Chicago will draft him #1 and he'll bust... USC QBs routinely suck ass and Chicago is known for destroying QBs.

Chicago will continue to suck balls and Williams will probably be a little bitch boy like Leinart.

Scouting the helmet always the most accurate tactic lol

Williams will bust, shopson, you know it, and I know it. He came out of nowhere, nobody talked or cared about him a year ago.. he plays in an easy division (granted UW was good), was injured, and put up a mediocre season compared to the other top prospects..

Bust written all over him. And then the Bears? LMAO.. give me a break.

Obviously we Bears fans have no clue as to how our GM will handle that #1 pick, but I'm pretty sure the majority, possibly vast majority of fans have completely soured on Williams. I think most are for trading the pick or if we keep it and Fields is still a Bear, than it's safe to assume it will be used on Marvin Harrison, Jr. If Fields is traded, then the chances are probably 100% it will be used on a QB, but which one is pretty much up in the air.

I get you Shore... IMO you have to take Williams with the #1 overall and pray. I think it's a dumb pick (deep ball, mobility, out routes, SAFE stuff that pads stats but doesn't produce wins) but end of day what do I know? I'm not a football scout/coach/player, etc...

Draft him and hope... Williams is not some second coming.. he's another mediocre QB out of USC... this QB class is WEAK. I wanted Seattle to draft Stroud 100%... Carroll was so excited about Witherspoon and Houson made the move and you let the next best QB fall.

Chicago has to know that Fields just hasn't developed and likely never will. He just hasn't got the mental processing skills to be a top QB. Great athlete, nothing more. So they will likely draft Williams because that is the guy everybody has hyped for over a year now and after that NE will draft Maye and Washington maybe Penix if they change coaches. I have no idea what the future holds but honestly, none of these guys excite me all that much. The Cardinals are in a pretty good spot to add Harrison Jr. for Kyler and not have to worry about the unknown as much as the others. That's just my thoughts on this and everything can change a lot before draft day.

agreed

and comparing this guy to Russell Wilson or Leaf is extra special.
Yeah you’re right. He isn’t anyway near as talented as Leaf

I think 2023 hurt his draft stock, and skipping the bowl games hurts it too. Seeing whos on top of the draft board, those minuses could be pluses.
I don’t believe skipping a lower tier bowl game damaged his draft stock. You better get used to it because more players who’s team isn’t part of the national championship picture are going to opt out of lower level bowl games

Scouting the helmet makes no sense, especially since USC didn't recruit him (he was a transfer along with his coach).

Non playoff bowl games are just exhibition games at this point. No real weight to them at all.

Yup! His pro day will be worth much more. He really doesn’t even need to go the to combine. There may be some arguing by scouts between him and Penix, but I imagine he will end up #1. Now we just have to see if Chicago will gamble by trading the #1 pick again, or draft him.

I think that Williams/Penix debate will be very real and not media contrived to be honest. Penix has shown he can win at two different spots and one of them was Indiana!

If he shows out vs. Michigan the way he did vs. Texas, it's going to be a big talking point right up to the draft. Both guys put on a damn good show in early November. Dillon Johnson kinda stole the show though, lol.

There are basically three knocks on Penix, which could possibly drive down his draft value.

1. He's a bit slight in frame and build.
2. He's been somewhat injury-prone.
3. He's "old" by QB draft standards.

To me, I almost immediately throw out 1 & 3. Yeah, at 6'3, 215 or so, he could stand to add a few pounds, but this seems to be a picky gripe. Same with #3. By the time the coming season gets under foot, he'll be 24. With other positions, this could be a factor, but successful QBs in this league tend to have fairly long careers, at least by NFL standards, so to me this isn't a biggie at all. And as far as #2 goes, I only consider the point that a player is injury prone if it's the same injury that dogs him repeatedly. I'm not up to date on the kid's injury history, but unless it's the same one that has kept him off the field, here too I don't place such heavy stock on it. What I do place heavy stock on is a QB's ability to read the field, go thru his checkdowns when needed, how quickly he gets rid of the ball, and naturally his accuracy. I have to say the games and film highlights I've seen of Penix, he checks all those boxes quite nicely.

Of course, the Bears could draft Williams and let him sit behind Fields for a year or two.

I think Williams' ability to create with his mobility and running game will be one of the deciding factors. Penix can't extend the play to that same level. Also, Penix is plus aged with injuries to both knees in his college career. I would be surprised if he's higher than the fourth QB off the board. Love that accuracy and sliding within the pocket though.

I doubt it would be two. Why commit to that 5th year option when you have the #1 pick on the bench? Actually, I doubt they would go this route regardless, unless the market for Fields just isn't good enough right now. Hard to imagine it would be better at the deadline if the other teams know they need to move him or lose him to FA though; maybe that's where the 5th year option comes in.

If they're not going QB, it makes more sense to trade down and pick up more picks (likely at least an additional 2025 1st in case they do need to go QB next year, as well as a 2024 2nd to replace the pick traded for Sweat). Compensation depends on how far they are trading down, they could get a 2025 2nd and 2026 1st in the deal as well if it's to #9 with Atlanta.

I think his age is a bonus. He’s 24 next season so he’s on his rookie deal until age 28. Unless he’s exceptional, then you get an easy reset or you get one contract for his prime front loading until age 31-32 and another chance to move on if need be.

That age means he's likely topped out though as an older, experienced prospect facing kids. Caleb should have more upside remaining.
