are we the only team that uses this tactic so often? i mean it just seems like we give up players to negotiate and then end up paying market value or more anyway.

oh, hello everyone :suds:

oh, hello everyone :suds:

whats up D! :suds:

other teams do it, but the flyers seem to do it once a year.. i dont particularly like the concept because you give the player even more leverage than he already had because you gave up stuff to get him

streit is a good player though, and a 4th/'never going to make it to the flyers' isn't much to give up.. hopefully this isn't a long contract though, he'll be on a 35+

i'd prefer 2 years, and that is never going to happen, hopefully 3 max.

I hope this doesn't mean Boucher is coming back to be our backup?

haha nah.. still plenty of room to resign gus and put 3-4 mil in to a competant goalie (emery? :thumb:)

i do think theyll move grossmann, coburn, or mesz though.. lots of money tied up on the back end and there isn't a spot for gus if they really do want to see what he's got

I'd like to keep Grossman and Coburn and let Mez go. His health issues are much worse than Grossman. I also like Grossman's size and shotblocking skills.

Let me understand this amnesty clause. If we sign Streit to 4 years, we can
Buy him out after 2 years correct? We can use it every year if I'm
Correct eh?

I believe its only an offer that is good through next summer only and we are only aloud to use it on 2 players.

So let me get this straight.
Some out here want to buyout Briere and trade read, this after trading JVR last year.

So who scores next year? What if 1 or 2 of our main forwards go down?

Im worried that our scoring depth that made us a very good hockey team is not nearly as deep if some of these moves are made

I don't think anyone wants Read to get traded. We can get a goaltender that is UFA. No need to trade. We have to shed salary at some point.

I didnt see anyone on here wanting to trade Read. Trading JVR last year was a plus for our team since he did nothing for us in the offensive department and we received schenn in return. Our offesnse will look considerably better this season because of defensive zone puck movement will help us break out more easily.

I understand JVR got us a good asset and Ilike that trade.
Im strictly saying if we keep trading forwards we will soon need our own.
We dont know if Couts and or Shenn will break out.
Im just worried that if Hartnell or Simmonds or god forbid Giroux go down for a length of time then we are fucked

I'd suspect that Homer did his homework properly this year. I'm guessing he has his plan thought out very well. First attack, Syreit( possibly expensive, but doesn't cost us players). My guess attack 2 will be the buyouts of Bryzy and Briere to then go after a goaltender. I think the Bernier rumor is smokescreen. I think we keep our core in tact. However, attack 3 will
possibly be a trade of one of our dmen ( Coburn). It sheds salary and we can load picks or go
after a young up and coming forward. Coburn could net us a solid return IMO.

I wish Kimmo would have taken less to stick around( maybe 3 mil) that 6 million for him is steep

That's pretty much the going price for solid dmen.. Somebody else would have paid possibly more for him. Coburn could be trade bait at some point and teams will give up some big picks and/or players to get a solid dman.

i actually think the flyers are already at the point where another forward would be useful.. as much flack as the defense got last year, the offense was pretty putrid at times too.. there's nobody that can drive offense on the team other than giroux and voracek and they play on the same line.. and if you absolutely need a goal, you don't have a pure goal scorer to throw out on the ice.. i think both are cogs the flyers could use.. the pure goal scorer being the primary target though, a goal scoring RW would be fantastic.. then voracek can be the 2nd line's driver
