Morning sirs!!! I feel like 47 at times:) in which I can't make up my friggin mind on who we should draft, who our next goaltender should be, and who we should pursue via FA? My head is spinning in circles. I kind of go off of for example, Meltzer's opinion and some of your guy's perception on a player. As of this very second, I don't want to trade Read for Bernier because if I was reading some posts here, Smith is a UFA? Doesn't make sense to trade? As for the draft, I really don't care because in recent years, the Flyers have drafted well with their 1st round pick. Any of these guys mentioned should be a safe pick IMO.

I really don't want to trade Read. He's near the top bang-for-your-buck list on the team. I get that you have to give up value to add value, but the reason the flyers are in cap hell all the time is because they dont have any top 6 guys making 900k against the cap. Dealing the only one you have just isn't smart IMO.

Goalie-wise, I want Bryz to be bought out. However, if they don't plan on signing someone in his place, I'd rather than keep him then roll in to the season with everything riding on Mason. I want a goaltender battle with Mason next year. It doesn't make a ton of sense to me to add a 'young up and comer' because you already have that in Mason, plus your 'prospect of the future' is Stolarz. It's possible that neither guy pans out, but it seems silly to make trades/FA signings based on the assumption that neither will. Goaltending is really overblown these days. Yes it's important to have a good goalie, but finding that goalie is hard, and it likely won't last. Outside of Lundqvist and Brodeur, no other goalies have had longer than 2-3 years at elite status in the last 5-10 years. Emery and Smith are probably my top two UFA goalies for the Flyers to go after, but as long as it's a guy that can at least compete for the starting job, I'm ok with whoever.

On the draft, I'm pretty confident the Flyers will end up with a good player. They do a great job in round 1. I would like to see them depart from the best player available strategy a little and take a defensemen. I don't want them to take a defensemen at all costs, but if you have a dman and a forward ranked within 3-5 spots of each other, I would like to see them reach a bit for the dman. The theory of drafting quality and then trading it for the position of need only works if you're drafting equal value. Right now, you could draft a 30 goal, 75 point player and be pleased with how your pick turned out, but it won't net you a top 2 dman in a straight up trade. Dmen are just far more valuable these days.

I have to say i would really like to keep Read as he is cheap and before he got hurt last year was our asnswer to the goals everyone thought we would miss when my boy JVR got traded. I dont think there are many guys who could possibly put up 30 goals in a season who make 900k

Bill needs to pick up the pace. He's doing a comprehensive thing on BSchenn today like he did for Coots yesterday and I'm curious!

I dont know how reliable that guy is after reading in his Coots article that he wasnt turning the puck over. I watched every game but 3 and coots turned the puck over way more than he mentioned in his article especially in the defensive zone. This was definately another product of us having to scramble in our own zone thanks to Bryz but those turnovers still happened. Maybe he was trying to sugar coat it being that coots is so young.

He was just using the numbers that were kept, which he mentioned were a very subjective stat. The turnover and takeaway stats that are kept are 100% the dude taking the stats opinion of whether it was a turnover or a takeaway or missed passes or just hockey happening on the ice.

I would like to add here, if the Flyers pick up a goaltender who is very good at puck handling ( Mason very good), I wouldn't be as concerned about our defense. Mason made our defense look better than advertised. Bryzy not so much. So, we have Mason. Is Smith good w the puck
Or is he another product of Bryzy? I know he is a big dude. Probably bigger than Hextall.

I read on here yesterday that Smith is one of the best puck handlers in the league. If not Smith b/c someone gets him before us what other options are out there.

ha that was me :)

but yes, smith is a very good puckhandler, that's why he was on my list. i do think he benefitted from playing behind a tippet coached team, but puckhandling is such a useful skill to have in a goalkeeper.. like mall said, it makes the defense look so much better.. especially when the defense is lacking puck handlers too.. it can also keep the defense a little healthier and fresher because they dont have to take the beating they get when they have to go deep in the zone to retrieve the puck

I just looked what about Ray Emery and Chris mason?

i love emery, he's my top choice.. i think he's a VERY good goalie

mason i wouldn't be upset with either.. not my favorite, but he's good enough to compete with mason and thats my only requirement at this point

Question. Is it possible to buyout both Bryz and Briere to give us some cap space to make room for a Brad Richards and Mike Smith? Assuming Richards is bought out. Do the Flyers have the flexibility to make this work? Someone else would have to get traded, no?

Read for Bernier?
please no,don't be so!

Bernier has played in 62 games over 5 years-good goals against avg and save %,but was not thrown into too many crucial games.

Read is one of the best bang for your buck players in the league.Start using the underacheiving Wellwood and a few others in trade talks IMO.(if anyone would even consider taking him/them)

Sorry,I'm against this.Address getting a puck moving d-man at all costs involving any trades.Use the 1st and 2nd draft pick on getting d-men(not the best player available and hope to flip him).

We could have them switch jerseys so the other team never knows who's playing.

I have to believe Pitt will be taking a step back next season. They don't have the cap to resign some of their players. I have to believe that the wizard Shero will fleece some teams via trades. I can see them getting a king's ransom for Letang and Neal. Assuming he makes the trade. Who knows? It wod be nice to see Shero get a taste of his own medicine for once.
