Veteran Fitzpatrick agrees to terms with Bucs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reached an agreement with veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, the team announced Friday.

The 34-year-old Fitzpatrick, who has started 116 games over his 12 seasons in the NFL, will serve as the backup to starter Jameis Winston. Fitzpatrick is coming off a two-year run with the New York Jets that was marked by one terrific season, a long contract dispute and one disappointing season.

The Bucs will be the seventh NFL stop for Fitzpatrick, who has also played for the Rams, Bengals, Bills, Titans and Texans. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, only five quarterbacks -- Jeff Blake, Steve Bono, Chris Chandler, Gus Frerotte and Vinny Testaverde -- have thrown a pass for seven different teams.

@Jets must be so happy!

Good signing considering Ryan Griffen was their backup. Went from 0-Fer if the backup starts to don't totally count them out.

Not bad.

Sure he's gonna throw a lot of picks if Winston somehow goes down, but you can do a lot worse. He's not a Chad Henne or Matt Schaub.

I think this signing clearly states the people inside the organization think this team is ready now. No way they make this signing if they thought they were a year away. If Winston goes down for a few games he can step in and tread water. If this team Was a year away why try and wins games and get a worse draft pick.

Personally I would prefer a QB with a better arm given the offensive moves the Bucs made this year. But for Fitz this makes sense, Back Up on a team with a lot of weapons.

Fitzpatrick is easily one of the best backup QB's in the league. I'd take Fitz over Cassel in a heartbeat.

The year Fitz was in Tennessee he played well when Locker went down and was better than Locker easily.

Look at Fitz stats from 2010 onward he threw for around 150TD and 95 or so INT and around 23,000 yards not too bad.

Fitz went 9-7 with Houston in 2014 and 10-6 with the NY Jets in 2015.

We're gonna get Kapernick instead....

But I'd have taken Fitz if he shaved his stupid beard.
Yes I'm sure those down home American's in Dallas will love him. Not sure even Jerrah wants that attention? But then again he is Jerrahactic after-all

In a 49–31 comeback win over the Cincinnati Bengals, Fitzpatrick threw for 316 yards and 4 touchdowns, including 3 to Stevie Johnson. This performance marked the first time in NFL history that a team had come back from 17 points down to win by 18 or more.

Should be a solid backup to Winston. Good signing for them.
