I'd be willing to give Bryz $5 million and change to vault him into the top ten or even eight goalies in the Nhl salary-wise, but $30-32 million over 5 years would be between $6 and $6.4 million per season and that is just more than we can afford to spend. Besides, there are only a few goalies in the Nhl that make that kind of money and they are younger, more talented goalies (Lundqvist, Ward and Miller).
So, essentially, fuck him if he wants $6 and a half million or more. Homer will not go from not having an elite goalie to having an elite goalie but severely overpaying for him. That doesn't do much for us, if anything at all.
Bryz should be overjoyed to take something in the neighborhood of $5.25 million per and get to play for a team that makes a serious Cup run every other year that they make the playoffs. Sure, he could possibly get $1 million more per season from someone else via free agency, but it's not likely to be as competitive of a team.
Only a semi,as this is still foreplay.
Let's get him in a Flyers jersey before we blow our loads.
Can see you coming a mile away...sinner...lol...tox...hmm the Philadelphia Sinner...could be a new franchise...fits the bill...lol...how you been tox...baby doing well grandpop...lol
Normally I wouldn't pay any attention to stuff like this, but I've seen the comment (rumor?) on numerous non-hockeybuzz-related sites that trading Bob is now an option.
I understand where they're coming from, but still think that would be an incredibly stupid move -- especially after letting Eriksson go. Does anybody else put much stock in this? Or am I getting all worked up over nothing?
I think the problem would be how long you are willing to overpay Bob to sit behind Ilya and/or how long you would be willing to make Ilya a 5 million dollar backup. It is hard to do both in the cap economy.
I don't think this will be an issue as long as Homer restrains from giving Bryz a NTC, which I'm sure he is after anyway. I'm honestly looking at this contract a a defining point in Homer's career as GM. Until this point he has made some great deals and some bad deals, but he's consistently shown he does not know how to handle the cap in a long term setting.
I for one am not willing to lose JVR next season and knowing this is a contract year for him I'd be looking well past just this seasons cap number and trying to figure out how to keep the most competitive team on the ice possible for the next 4-5 years.
i couldn't agree more.. this off-season homer needs to make moves that will help the future.. because this win-now mentality has the flyers going the way of the pens, hawks, oilers, and so many others if he doesn't look towards the future this summer.. and IMO 1 cup is not worth 5-10 years of basement dwelling
