You can't keep track of a convo.....like at all. It's why you annoy people in the NBA Off Topic thread when you go off on one of your tangents.....

I said RW's and Watson's cap hits would be similar.....you said no they wouldn't. The RW dead cap hit for Denver was 85 million.....
In fact, I can keep track of a convo. If we are talking dead cap, though, the dead cap hit on Watson is $175 mil, then $99 mil....a lot more than the dead cap hit on Wilson. Like I said.....so it seems you have lost track of this convo.

Of course, you can never admit you were off base so I don't expect it will happen here.

I mean, I have been off base before and if so would simply own it and move on. That's not something DJ has ever been capable of doing as I would imagine most here are aware.

Isn't DW dead money still above 100M?

If the article I posted is correct it's $175 mil in 2025 and $99 mil in 2026.
Your right and I was thinking it was 99.79 million in 2025 but it's 2026, holy cow that is the most insane contract I've ever seen, folks be talking about it decades later. Pay him 73 million in 2025 and 73 million again in 2026 (then eat 27 million in 2027) OR 73 million in 2025 and cut him in 2026 for 99 million OR cut in in 2025 and take a 175 million cap hit. As long as he's on the roster it will be a topic of discussion. Will the Browns even use him going forward? Seems like a hindrance for success if he's playing and starting Flacco or Winston was a upgrade and give the Browns a better chance to win games. Browns are already in the hole for cap space in 2025 and Jack Conklin the only player they can cut/trade to get cap relief (5 million in savings) and only 44 players signed for 2025.

Because he has been so bad it's insane, but when they make the deal it's not really made thinking that would be the case. I don't know ins and outs of how these deals work, but guessing the restructurings went into making it like it is? This deal would still be really bad if, say, it was closer to the usual huge QB deal with 70-80% guaranteed (and a couple restructures).

As to what to do or if we use him? I'm guessing he will at least get a chance to start if he's even healthy enough but in no way will it be like it's been where the job is his and will have real comp (high pick and/or Winston or another vet?).

I dont think they can afford to have him around the locker room. It is too distracting, let him go, pay Jameis or whoever to step in and challenge the players pride to keep winning games. They did it with Joe Flacco for chrissakes. But the stink of Deshaun is too far gone. This was the year he needed to make strides.

If letting him go means just telling him to go away and not cutting as mentioned I can get on board.

No matter what one thinks of the guy he did play reasonably well in 2023 in his limited time. What the hell happened? Still hurt? Just cannot handle the criticism? something else?

I think he is a head case, yes. Its not like this has never happened before. The pressure was immense for him to be successful given the Browns did well without him.

Just look at the offense, Jameis makes throws down the field, Deshaun was checking down every single play.

Flacco, too. Hell, PJ Walker and DTR threw downfield.

Maybe shoulder still messed up, too? Not trying to make excuses for the guy and hope he's gone but that is certainly possible, too.

Maybe, but it seems like that would have come up in preseason.

I'm not so sure it didn't......those who reported on practices said the O did not look right at all.

But whatever his issue is I don't really care. Just find a QB who can run the O next season and score some points.

My bad, I was getting the numbers mixed up.....

Bottom line, Winston has shown they can score points (even after trading Cooper) and they have to consider the primes of the other players careers. It might be a difficult pill to swallow but they should consider releasing him outright....OR telling him to stay home and resign and go with Winston next season.

And then release Watson after next season (when hit lessens a little).

If they keep him it's a 73 million cap hit (unless they redo the contract) cost 100 million to cut him.Talk about crazy either way.

Yeah Harold, it is. Eat the $$$$$ self inflicted mistake and move on.

Are there any of those left?

The only course forward is releasing Deshaun. He is toxic on the field, off the field, and is a shitty human being.

150 million fucking sucks but so does wasting the prime of the rest of your team.
Yeah, the dead cap issue is a killer but any rational human inside that building has to be hammering the front office to just dump this loser. Just figure out something and move on. He should never be seen anywhere near the facility again, imo. Send him back to Georgia or better yet, somewhere in Alaska.

Not going to happen.

If they release him.....some team will sign him on a vet minimum contract. He was way overpaid with the Browns.....but on a vet minimum contract he is a decent pickup.

Maybe but I just don't see any upside to having him in a teams locker room even as a backup at this point. He brings zero value, imo. Just distraction. Not Kaepernick or Tebow level but damn close. I think you are probably right DJ but I wouldn't make it an absolute certainty. Having said that, NFL execs do make some mind boggling decisions at times, lol.
