in New england for the third year in a row this upcoming season.

What's up with that? Seems a little unfair to me.

The rotation is predetermined and does result in stretches of consecutive home/away games for the same matchups.

It is. The entire schedule is predetermined. The only thing subject to any league decision whatsoever is order.

JDM is actually right on this. AS much as it pains me to see us go to Foxboro again for the NFL schedule to work this happens every once in a while. I think before this stretch of games in Foxboro they actually played in Denver a few times in a row so this is just balancing out the system. Now if it happens again next year I might think something fishy is up as that would be just getting a little crazy but right now it is just the NFL using their scheduling formula to figure out home and away games.

You must have a similar stretch of home games against a different division champion going ATM too.

It all balances out. The scheduling is pretty damn near perfect, stretches of home/away games might not be ideal, but overall it's as near perfect as is possible.

And yes, you could determine the schedule (except order) for 100 years from now given the records the previous year.

So essentially looking at that after this season the Broncos could have 3 straight home games against New England if they finish at the same ranking within their division. No matter what the next game after this season will be a home game against NE so looks like it does balance out just as JDM said.

Exactly.

See, the internet has some positive uses after all.

Seahawks played in Chicago three straight years. The NFL likes to do three year stretches and then switches. No conspiracy. I would be more worried about playing in Seattle next year though if I were Broncos fans

Yeah, it's all fair. I mean come on, let's not get carried away and pretend like Belichick might actually cheat to gain an unfair advantage playing in New England anyway, right? :suds:

The schedule for eternity is determined right now, obviously, barring expansion which will likely unfortunately happen. The only thing subject to discretion is when. Who and where have a set formula.

I tend to agree its unfair. Surely the NFL can create an algorithm during scheduling that addresses that. It should alternate

I'm waiting for the day that Belichick gets all 16 games at Gillette. Preseason can be away to keep it fair

I don't think it's actually possible to have everyone's schedules actually alternate home and away and still have 8 home and away games each.

JDM, i think it is. The parametrics are not that significant. What is more difficult is if weather is factored in, meaning, having southern teams play in the north late in the season and vice versa. Note that in the last 20 years or so, cold weather teams seem to be winning more superbowls, or so it seems

It's not, and I'll give you an example: last year the Broncos played the Patriots and Ravens due to all 3 teams finishing first in their division. Now the Broncos had also played the Patriots and Ravens in 2012, and both of those were road games. So to rotate, the Broncos would have had to play both the Patriots and Ravens at home in 2013, but of course that would have given them 9 home games and 7 road games. So they had to play one of those teams on the road twice in a row.

It's really not that difficult to understand. When the AFC West played the AFC East in 2011, the Patriots had to travel to Denver. That's why in 2014 when the AFC West plays the AFC East, the Broncos are going to New England. It's not a conspiracy, it's just a quirk of the schedule that Denver plays in New England 3 years in a row. As long as the NFL doesn't change the schedule, if the Broncos finish in the same place in the division as New England the next 2 years, the Patriots will be traveling to Denver 3 years in a row.
