It's not a stat thing. You have to watch him play. He's had nothing and has had some crappy OL play too. Put him on a good team and you will see them dominate. Guy makes at least one throw a game every single time I've watched him that makes me think not many guys could have done that. He's just an incredible thrower of the football. The closest to Marino in the league today IMO. There may be better QBs, but no one throws the football better.
Chargers oline was 10th against the pass but like 27th against the run...although some of that might have to do with them predictably running a lot.

Herbert had a good rookie year and followed it up as a top 5 QB. Since then every year has been a different excuse but I could reasonably think most GMs would believe the excuses.

Do either of you believe that if Purdy hit the FA market another team would've paid him in the same range?

Here is the thing, all those listed above $50mil/year signed in the last year or so, which is the current market. As I stated, whether you believe they're worth it doesn't mean anything, the only person that needs to believe it is one NFL GM, and I don't think either of you are.

Yah. Some other team would've Cleveland Brown'd it the same.

There's always a simp out there. I mean Moab it's just how it works.

Whatever. I'm glad the simp was the 49ers in this case. Now I mean they simped on Lance and recovered from it, so maybe they can pull it off again. Easier to recover from loss of draft picks than contract guarantees. History shows highly unlikely.

This was great news for Seattle fans. I said this for the last 1-2 years (during the 2023 overrated season) as well saying I was praying the 49erse would sign Purdy to some dumbass contract... I got my wish today. If I'm wrong, you know I'll eat it here... In the moment, I'm celebrating and have already got your friends/parents drunk tonight. We'll call you around 11PM.

Ive seen a ton of his games and really like him. But you're talking about talent. He has amazing talent. But that's what makes so many or his playoff duck eggs head scratchers

Everyone has a right to their opinion and I totally understand a Seattle fan hoping they signed him to that kind of contract if they believe he won't live up to it.

That stated, Denver did overcome the Wilson contract, or at least they did last year, so I'm not so sure it's a franchise crippling deal. Now, it if was 8 years and 400 million with a massive guarantee it might be a different story, but that's not how most teams operate when the QB is a bit unproven.

Basically we will all see how all these contracts play out and I'm pretty sure a few will probably look pretty bad, so we all get to watch them unfold.

That's my thing.
Top eight salaries for next season

Dak $60M
Burrow $55M
Allen $55M
Love $55M
Lawrence $55M
Tua $53.1M
Goff $53.1M
Herbert $52.5M

Two of the eight have any realistic chance to win the Super Bowl(Allen and Goff) and only one of those is the biggest reason(Allen)

Purdy falls into not

Those Florida quarterbacks are living the high life. It must be nice to be ridiculously overpaid

Now Moab, I love you for this because you brought up a very valid point.

If the Denver Broncos can get out of Wilson, pay a head coach mass amounts of money and a team the draft picks to get him, and then get a QB who has still only done one fuck all year in the NFL but will be cheap...

I mean... ya got something.

I mean end of day the 49ers didn't give up any draft capital, they just paid a fuck ton of a money to a mediocre QB that is leading a team of former elite players, and maybe you last 2 years with that and then blow the whole thing up.

What I said above is perfectly fine. But I consider the 49ers irrelevant for the next 3 years and that makes me happy. I think the 49ers are simply trying to 'fill some seats' for the next few years. They've gone full rebuild. I mean hey, maybe their entire defensive draft class (in one of the weakest draft classes since 2009) will pan out. :noidea:

The top 3 qbs imo are Mahomes, Allen and Burrow. Mahomes not paid like it.

I think there are 4 QBs that are clearly the top 4 in the NFL - Mahomes, Burrow, Allen and Jackson. Those 4 stand out above the rest as the best IMO. I’m not sure who I would put at 5, Hurts or Stafford probably, but those 4 are clearly in a class of their own as the best.

CMC is really the engine that makes that offense go.

When he’s healthy, they are dynamic. When he is not, the offense struggles.

Losing Deebo will hurt the offense as well.

Purdy is good, but he’s not the type of QB to elevate other players. But, he is in the right system, so they have that going for him.

And, Denver “recovered” from Wilson because they had a high draft pick to get a good rookie QB that happened to be in a loaded class.

Chances are, the 49ers aren’t going to be picking that high any time soon. And, even if they were, with what they are paying Purdy, chances are they aren’t taking a QB unless they were ready to write him off and eat a lot of dead money ( just like the Broncos did ).

@bamagrad75, @boltfan72, @Superbelt can any of you help our slippery finned sea dweller and put the "-" in re-signed in the thread title???

As to Purdy, of the remaining free agents, he's the best choice. He threw for over 3,800 yards last year. He has playoff and SB experience. I think as a whole, the 49er's won't do well. McAffrey is injury prone, Kittle is over 30, Aiyuk is coming off of an ankle injury and the other two WR aren't studs. The OL was ranked in the middle of the pack.

Burrow and Allen you pay that money for sure. Its a bigger issue to pay Burrow because he holds on to the ball to make big plays which means you need to invest in OL and WR but if the Bengals actually drafted well on defense then they would still be in a really good position moving forward. For me, I think paying Higgins is not something 80% of GMs would've done and they would've gladly flipped him for a high value pick and saved a ton of cap space. I don't hate the Herbert contract because he was a top 5 QB for one season and now that they have Harbaugh he can be a high end game manager.

Wouldn't want Dak, Lawrence, Purdy or Tua. Love's contract is fine, imo, but I feel Love being on a good team for a decade maybe makes 1 Super Bowl. Allen on a good team for a decade would make 5 Super Bowls if Mahomes wasn't making them.
Just one small problem with that argument. Mahomes hasn't been to every SB.

Right or wrong, im not paying any QB $50+ Million unless they are a top 5 needle movers. Giving good QB's that big of a bag will keep you pretty good but basically end your SB chances unless you're on an incredibly stacked team, which means a 2-3 year window as the other talent starts getting paid and leaving
How do you feel about Dak?

You and Schmoopy are 2 of the more realistic and rational Dallas fans on here. The rest get their jimmies rustled way too easily.....LOL.

Mike Florio had a good story about this. 3 key factors to consider:

1-Signing bonus
2-full guarantee at signing
3-cash flow over the first 3 seasons

I love Dak. Awesome kid, and a real good QB. I was always on record that I would not pay him because I didn't think he was a good enough player to carry us to a title with a salary that forced us to cut talented players around him. But they had no choice but to resign him because of the way his deal was structured and the fact they never developed another option at QB. I think we have a better team this year than many people realize, im hoping we can have miraculous health and he can prove me wrong
