With the pending off-season shuffle of personnel in sight, Is it in the teams best interest to resign or let go of Brian Orakpo??

depends on the money. 8 mil per season should be the max. Hopefully he takes 6.

I used to be on the fence on this one. However - after some thought I believe that they must keep him. He is one of the few current playmakers on that defense.

:agree: Letting him go would create another hole that we can't afford on defense. I just hope he accepts 6-8 mil a year....anything higher then we'll have to look at options, but Po had a very good season.

He's going to get a lot more than $6-8M. He will be in the $9-11M range. He is rated in the top 5 FAs for the year. Its not a very good FA class. Edge rushers are worth gold. Since he is the cream of this years crop of edge rushers, he will do very well. I don't see us getting much of a home team discount, either.

exactly, Orakpo is very good. He's not elite. Perhaps he'll have some elite seasons once we add some key FA's.
There's just no way he's going to be a 15+ sack guy with no help. Nor can Kerrigan and him do it alone.
Losing him over 2-3mil would be devastating.

Like was stated before, we can't afford to lose him and add more NEEDS to a defense with lots of needs....To us, he may not be worth more then 8 million a year, but to other teams, I bet he is.....I am hopeful we can get something done, but if not I have a feeling the franchise tag is heading his way...and I hope with other pieces of the puzzle around him to make his job easier, he will play up to the money we will have to pay him with the franchise tag

10-11 mil a season? not worth it. That is Talib and Decker for our team. Rak is not worth Clay Matthews type money. I know pass rushers are important but its too much money. Plus Kerrigan had the better season last year guys and he was hurt with a torn miscus. how was Rak a beast last year raptor? Skinemall, you said Rak wasn't elite so why pay him elite type money? 8 mil should be the max for him.

Well considering we dont want Decker (not worth the contract he will want to me..as he will be a #2 on the Skins)...that money can go to Rak

Thing is....I dont think he will as they Skins will try to get him signed to a good contract...If it dont happen...franchise tag.......and I dont think he is a player teams would be willing to part with draft picks for...

Talib has an above average front 7 in N.E. He will NOT thrive in Washington if he has to cover WRs for 6-7 seconds because of no pass rush. You've potentially wasted 9 mil right there. Decker? what is he going to do when he faces a year of double coverage? When there's no Welker or Thomas to take away the safety help. Is he still dropping wide open catches and are the football Gods still tripping him up in open space?

Orakpo has(excluding his injured year) averaged double digit sacks with virtually no front 3, and a shaky shaky secondary, that has failed to contribute coverage sacks. That is why you pay him 9 mil a year, so when he goes to another team, he isn't the 2nd coming of Ware.
You get more talent around Orakpo, and he can have ELITE seasons.

btw...don't get me wrong...I'd welcome Talib and Decker to this team

Like I said earlier, I dont want Decker, but he would be #2 here, and Garcon will be commanding way more double teams then Decker.........

I do want talib !!!!!

talib carries that secondary. NE has major injuries in its front 7. Talib is a #1 shutdown cb. I don't know where you got 9 million from. If we can get Talib for 6mil I think its a deal. talib is going to be our #1 FA target b/c its a need and he has ties with Bruce Allen from Tampa. I think its going to happen.

I misspoke with Decker he will be overpaid. My point is that if we don't sign Rak we can get two impact FA. Rak also gets sacks b/c of Kerrigan is on the other side. Kerrigan gets sacks and forced fumbles. In 2009 when Rak had 11 sacks on the year that was b/c albert haynesworth was here in a 4-3 defense, he benefited from Albert taking on double teams. 2011 was his best year b/c of the arrival of Kerrigan. if you pay Rak 10-11 million what the hell is Kerrigan worth? Kerrigan is the better all around player in my opinion.

I guess I'm getting caught up in money too. Sure Talib would be a great pick up. was haynesworth a good pick up? most would say no. But it appears you're implying that he helped Orakpo have a career year. So, why not keep Po, and help Kerrigan reach his potential? Especially now that he has injury issues...

You have a valid point with Talib and his past connections, so we'll see BUT...Washington can be bad atmosphere for Talib...we are in need of leaders. He has that in N.E.

we will have plebty of money if we want some big name FA's and keep Rak

the defense floundered without Rak . kerrigan has never posted a double digit sack in his career . and jackson has proven he cant come close to giving us what Rak does

dean , you need to learn from the past . big name free agents more often then not fail with us we need to stay away from a talib who is looking for a pay check because that is what he would be doing if he left a contending team like the PATS

The defense was 3-13 with Orakpo. They were 10-6 with him. Not that one guy had that effect. I'd keep Kerrigan over Orakpo. Kid would have had double digit sacks this year but hurt his knee. He played with the knee injury and missed ZERO games.

I agree Kerrigan is the better player. I just cant see giving Rak 10-11 mil per season. We don't have to sign big money FA. Just FA who will fill holes. If Talib will cost 6 or 7 mil per season you have to go after him. My top three FA are Talib, Saffold, and Mack. Use the draft for WR, ILB, OG, and S. hopefully Riley and Hall come back.

So, if you don't resign rak, who takes his place?
