I think Philly sees that they can get a competent replacement for much cheaper this off season. If ever there was a time to need a RB, this off-season is about as good as it gets. Paying 10+ million for a RB is just not good business.

"Eagles running back LeSean McCoy wants to work with the Eagles.

He just doesn’t want to work for less.

Via Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, McCoy said he’s happy to restructure his contract, so long as it doesn’t mean a cut in pay.

“I know how hard it is to keep a team together and I want to be part of this team. But I don’t want to take less money,” McCoy said."

Eagles really didn't have much to lose by trading him or cutting him, but you're right.

He didn't renegoiate and lower that number with the Bills, so I think they felt he was worth it.

Devil's Advocate before we say Yes......on the surface it looks great for the Cowboys, but the Eagles have $40 million in cap space and Murray is a Free Agent....getting a Sean Lee caliber LB and adding Murray from your rival would be a master stroke....

Imagine the intel they could get on their division rivals as well if they pulled off a coup for Murray.

I too thought of Murray going to Philly when I first Saw this, but he doesn't really fit in Kelly's system. Kelly does like to run the ball a lot more than people realize, but I don't think Murray is as good of a fit as McCoy.

I just don't see why Philly would do this.McCoy is fucking awesome and a great fit for that offense. I know he had a down year, but I'm not so sure that was his fault.

He wasnt as good as 2013 but he was still 3rd in the NFL running behind a patch work OLine for half the season. McCoy was my favorite Eagle but he will be 27 in June. Thats still young but what I think Chip is saying is that the Eagles have so many holes by the time they get filled up McCoy will be pushing 30 years old.

It's going to hurt big time but I guess you can look at it as Philly got a young stud LB and an extra 11 million dollars for another player. Totally hypothetical Jarntt but would you trade McCoy for Kiko Alonso (2nd in D rookie of the year) and Pro Bowl Safety Devin McCourty? Eagles now at 53 million under the cap but are LOADED with holes (OLB, RG, S, 2CB's, RB and WR)

Alonso much like Lee has to prove he can stay on the field and while I'd hate to lose Murray to the Eagles. I might rather go up against Murray than McCoy. Not to mention I don't know that Murray would work in Chip's O?

I think Philly uses the cap room for their D and signs a cheaper back

It seems to me that part of the motivation for this trade is to be able to re-sign Maclin.

It looks like Kelly is tired of fooling around. Trent Cole is getting released, they cut another corner, and at over $50 million under the cap, the Eagles are going to look totally different next year. As fun as it may be to win the offseason, that tactic rarely works(Daniel Snyder). It's kind of strange to see Jerry's team looking like the voice of stability, but it's a welcome change IMO

Maybe for one years salary cap I'd rather have McCourty and Alonso, but McCourty is going to get around $8M/year for 4 years, right? It's not just this year. I don't think he is worth it. Do you want to give him that? Also, Alonso is good, but he isn't as good as he is all of a sudden being made out to be in the last 12 hours. He had a stud DL in front of him. I think McCoy is by a mile your best offensive player. I don't get last year because even when he had the holes his explosion wasn't there. If it's really gone I love the trade for Philly because he is being paid to be great, but if he still has it,,,he is worth his weight in gold. Look at it this way. You now have a suspect QB, need a stud RB and your best WR if Maclin leaves is???? Even if he stays Maclin isn't a true #1. He is a borderline 1/2. This could be a reloading year, or it could be a 4 win season depending on what else Philly does. At least your cap room gives you options
