Jerry West built a powerhouse in the 80"s. He had two #1 picks, and he got Magic and Worthy. Traded away other picks to get Kareem.

He used his assets and the draft well, although he had some hit or miss's in the draft later in his tenure for sure. Now a Warrior. amazing

Jerry wasn't GM until 1982. Not sure you got the timeline quite right LMan.

My bad rule, I thought he was responsible for Magic pick, and Worthy. Those draft picks built a tremendous squad. he hit pay dirt with Kobe though in the process of a second rebuild

Crotch, your going to need to be patient this year and see how Sully, Green, Kelly and others form. Danny and Brad wont make the rash decisions Pitino made. I plan to take the year in sections, and see how the team redevelops. Bring Rondo in slow. Then we can begin to guess what Danny trades away and what he keeps in anticipation of the next few drafts. He certainly will have options.

curious question is will the Celtics brass fork out the dough when it comes to FA's in both '14 and '15?? if so, will be interesting if any top flight FA's want to leave current clubs and head to Beantown or LA or neither....
You can build through the draft all day but the successful blueprint, in the NBA for the most part, has been a combo of draft AND FA's. Lakers and Spurs are evidence since the early millenia.

No doubt about the second rebuild. Drafting Kobe (technically traded, but we've gone through that already plenty lol), getting Shaq from Orlando, adding the other pieces such as Horry and Fox, and getting Phil.

He of course made great moves during the Showtime era (B. Scott, AC, MT). He was able to put together a competitive team fairly quickly post Magic. No doubt he's good at what he does. Golden State is benefitting now.

OOPS!

I just accidentally gave a thumbs down to LogicMan when I meant to do the opposite. Can that be fixed?

I believe civility is in order in light of this weeks default showdown.

With regards to the upcoming FA classes, I am not overly excited that there are any franchise rebuilding gems, excluding Lebron. It is widely believed that the 2014 and 2015 draft classes are full of talent.

Any core player in a rebuild comes through the draft. The Miami deal was so unique, and pre CBA. Shaq deal was the only FA pick up of a core player w/o involving draft picks.

Thunder, Spurs,Bulls, Clippers, Lakers, Celtics rebuilds started with #1 to #5 top picks. Kobe rebuild at #13 an amazing exception.

The Celtics will need to draft well, and then mix a few decent FA's.

Celtics will start the 1st quarter off 5 and 15. When Rondo gets back they may turn into a .400 or .500 team. But that could all end if Danny trades vets off mid stream

I hope Danny builds around Rondo and Green, but I'm not gonna try to predict his plans.

Sorry, I'll refrain from trying to be humorous. I did a terrible job.
I'm guilty of taking things too seriously now and then. I may have done that here. But use smileys once in a while. Seeing people's facial expressions is impossible online which is the reason smileys exist at all. And this site does have some good ones.

The way we've been playing in the preseason, 5-15 seems a bit optimistic. I guess its possible though. Word.

Make that Rondo, SULLINGER and Green. In that order.

That could be a spectacular core if Rondo is even close to what he used to be pre-injury.
And if Olynyk is worthy of the draft pick we used to get him...

So I'm reading Stevens thinks Wallace and Green are starters? Interesting, what do you guys think?

I think Green will be an 18-21 PPG guy as a starter. Sully also could have a lingering back issue moving forward we have to worry about. I think he's part of the future if he can stay healthy, but Rondo and Green is the core.

What's his shooting percentage going to be?

That's more important than PPG, IMO. Ballhogs can fatten their PPG at the expense of the team. Their shooting percentages will suffer however.
