To win 9 games in each of his first 6 seasons as head coach, IF he wins the bowl game.

The only 4 coaches to ever do it are Tom Osborne, Barry Switzer, Chris Peterson, and George Woodruff.

I can find a bunch of negative things to point out about Pelini....but damn that is kinda impressive when you really put it into perspective.

how many times did Tom ever loose 4 games?

hint: it's zero

Yea I know....but there is also far more parity today where teams like Duke are actually good.

Back then there were a few teams who were a threat and that was it.

Still though.....the real issue isn't the fact that he lost 4 games.......it's how he has lost the games.

Don't worry. Mad Dog won't get his 9 wins this year unless some miracle occurs.

I suppose you believe Taylor is the best QB in Nebraska history too. That's what the numbers (without any context at all) say, so it must be so.

Give it up. George is ancient history....Tom & Barry are just history....Neither of these three played the same number of games per year as well. So let's take a look at two modern day coaches. Has Bo had us in any BCS games in his first 6 years? ZERO. Chris had Boise in two. Did Bo get us ranked in the top ten in six years? ZERO. Chris had Boise in the top 10, 4 out of his first 6 years.

Now JJM you were saying about Bo's accomplishment? That too equals ZERO.

P. S. Even without Aaron Murray, Georgia will still probably kick our asses in our bowl game.

OP, this stuff means nothing in the big scheme of things in the world of college football. It means you are not making BCS games, not meeting the standards of our blueblood status, not winning a conference title, and so much more. Winning 9 games x number of years straight is not something to brag about. There are over 25 teams in bowl games this year that have already won 9 games or more. Thus, you could come up with an entire list of top 25 teams. The "stat" means nothing.

This is from another poster on another board but I thought it was relevant to the thread so I updated it for current numbers......

"Countless times on here, I've read "the schedules were not as difficult during the Osborne era," as some sort of excuse that's it's more difficult to rack up wins now than it was 20-30 years ago. I decided it's about time to do some research and post the facts.

First, I only tabulated games played against top 20 competition (AP Poll). Remember, most of the Osborne era was played when the polls only had a top 20 (not 25, as current). So, better to leave out #21 through #25 for the entire period (1973-2011) -- as it's likely T.O. would have faced at least a handful of those as well, had they existed. This puts things on a level playing surface for a more valid statistical comparison.

Tom Osborne, 1973-1997 (25 seasons):
Played 97 games against ranked (top 20) competition.
3.88 ranked opponents per season.
60-36-1 W-L-T record.
.624 winning percentage.
14 seasons with a winning record against ranked opponents.

Frank Solich, 1998-2003 (6 seasons):
Played 21 games against ranked (top 20) competition.
3.50 ranked opponents per season.
8-13 W-L record.
.381 winning percentage.
1 season with a winning record against ranked opponents.

Bill Callahan, 2004-2007 (4 seasons):
Played 11 games against ranked (top 20) competition.
2.75 ranked opponents per season.
1-10 W-L record.
.091 winning percentage.
0 seasons with a winning record against ranked opponents.

Bo Pelini, 2008-2013 (6 seasons):
Played 19 games against ranked (top 20) competition.
3.16 ranked opponents per season.
5-14 W-L record.
.263 winning percentage.
0 seasons with a winning record against ranked opponents.

This kills the argument that Osborne played fewer top 20 ranked opponents. In fact, 3.88 per season is more than any coach since.

Also, it shows just how good Osborne was. Won over 62% of his games against ranked opponents. 14 seasons with winning records against ranked competition. (We've only seen one since T.O retired.) This crushes the records of Frank, Bill, and Bo. And my goodness, was Callahan ever bad against ranked competition."
