Notre Dame was in the title game recently so I'm not sure they qualify.

Notre Dame records since 1994, that is 20 seasons
ZERO seasons of Undefeated
One season of one loss
ZERO seasons of two losses
Seven seasons with three losses
One season with four losses
four seasons of five losses
four seasons of six losses
two seasons of seven losses
one season of NINE losses

You are entitled to your opinion, but I don't think having three losing seasons is very good for a blue blood. Twelve seasons with four or more losses.

Notre Dame is 3-11 in bowl games over the last 20 years, with the three victories coming in the Pinstripe, Sun, and Hawaii Bowls.

The last seven years Notre Dame is 53-36. That includes the 12-1 season. Take that out and it is 41-35.

I wish I still cared enough to bust out the stats like HIB10 and straight up own people. I used to do that all the time.

I swear HIB10 just absolutely smacks people with the facts on a regular basis. He doesn't get enough credit.

Yes, I said I wasn't sure if Notre Dame fit in that category considering they made a title appearance just two years ago. Another poster presented compelling evidence to the contrary. I'm not a Notre Dame fan, and I wasn't making a homer comment. I don't like the Irish at all. But yeah, I guess that means I got shit on.

With all that said, I can change my opinion. But you're still a giant douche bag.

SMU isn't a blue blood program. Just an upstart program that got smacked down by the NCAA after a few years of relevance.

I agree with everything you said, but always question the type or reasoning in this last line. I mean - if you discount all of Notre Dame's winning season, they actually have a losing record! Of course, that would be true for any team.

. . . . why would you take out our 12-1 season?

I dont know if they are a blue blood but from 1989-2001 there werent too many programs better than Colorado and now they havent even made a bowl in 7 years. Considering more than 50% of teams make a bowl game Id say that is pretty fucking miserable.

For you Notre Dame fans, The 12-1 year was a complete anomaly based on the most recent data.

Because if you don't include the BEST year in the last seven, the other six years, Notre Dame on average is 7-6, which is 42-36 which is very simliar to 41-35, which is a 54% winning percentage.

OK we include the 12-1 season. that is a 60% winning percentage.

Do whatever you want to massage the data, nothing in the last 20 years points to being a great blue blood. But, I still consider Notre Dame a blue blood.

Pssshh, we haven't gone anywhere. Still dominating as usual. Let's not forget, we still have a national title in the last 20 years and only 2 losing seasons.

For you Notre Dame fans, The 12-1 year was a complete anomaly based on the most recent data.

Based on data from the 2012 season, I would say that 12-1 was in no way anomalous. In fact, it reflects the final scores of the 13 games the Irish played. (Of course, all of that could change pending the current academics investigation.)

Now - you might ask if the Irish overachieved in 2012. And the answer is yes. But the accomplishments by an overachiever are generally considered to be .. well .. achievements.

Basically, an argument that says, "If you discount the times a team has been successful, they haven't been successful" is kind of ridiculous.

If you want to go really old school, Harvard and Yale. They split most the early national titles.

Chicago as well, the Big Ten's championship trophy is named the Stagg Trophy, after Amos Alonzo Stagg, the head coach at the University of Chicago from 1892-1932.

My favorite stat in college football: Tulane has more SEC football titles than South Carolina and Mississippi State combined.
