It's never good to see coaches turning us down, no matter who they are. I want(ed) the QB coach from Indy (I guess).

I agree with that but I'd prefer a more proven OC anyways. Either way it would seem he is just trying to hire a yes man so he can run the offense himself.

Whomever the OC turns out to be, I hope Caldwell implements they system he coached under Tom Moore in Indy, which is based on the "rhythm" offense Tom Moore coached here from 1994-1996 to great success. It requires fine execution by the QB, but even Scott Mitchell made it work. Here's a detailed article on the offense.

I'm starting to think this is a blessing in disguise. For years the Lions have been inept at hiring the right people to run the team.

Now their 1st choice as the head coach leaves them at the altar and they have to resort to their "backup plan".

Now the guy who was supposed to be the Offensive Coordinator says thanks, but no thanks and they have to resort to their "backup plan".

I think the best thing that could happen to this team is Teryl Austin says thanks, but no thanks and signs on to be the defensive coordinator somewhere else.

That way we could hit the trifecta of backup plan coaches, thus sending the fans in an uproar and in the end, they will probably be the best coaches the Lions have had in decades, because it wasn't who the front office wanted in the first place.
