ESPN-backed ACC Network launches in 2019

The ACC also extended its conference rights deal nine years through 2035-36.

The conference's grant of rights makes it financially untenable for a school to leave, guaranteeing in the 20 years of the deal that a school's media rights, including revenue, for all home games would remain with the ACC regardless of the school's affiliation.

ACC, ESPN Extend Deal to 2036 That Includes New ACC Network

Swofford said league schools unanimously extended a grant-of-rights provision that gives the ACC control of media rights — and more importantly, the money that comes with them — for any school that chooses to leave the conference for the duration of the ESPN deal.
Thanks

How would anybody gain money by moving? To use your example, OSU would take a paycut to move to the SEC.

If the SEC plucked OSU and Michigan, can you imagine the Tier 1 and 2 deals they could land? SEC network would also get a bump from being on those two states, not that I think it is going to happen but don't be silly in thinking the money wouldn't go up. Same for if the big ten grabbed Bama and LSU, or OU and Texas, etc...

TV contracts aren't going to go up anymore. By the time anyone can renegotiate, this TV bubble will have burst. The current model is not sustainable.

People were saying that same thing just before the BIG got their new tv deal figures.
The next contracts don't come up for negotiation until 2022. If ESPN continues as they are now, they will have 80% of their current number of subscribers in 2022, and that's assuming the cord cutting happens at a linear rate. It's more likely to accelerate as technology and access to programming expands to accommodate the new market.

Big 12 fans mirror their conference executives...unable to see reality when it is about to smack them in the face, only able to react once hit.

To put 6 years in perspective...6 years ago, Netflix had 20 million subscribers. Now there are close to 70 million.

Gotta keep in mind that ESPN makes their money off of live sporting events. Games and races command top ad revenue because they are typically the most live-watched things on television.

Right, but what if they only have 80% of the subscribers? That is going to impact the value of the advertisement. ESPN lost 1.5 million subscribers between February and June of this year, and 10 million since 2013. Eventually that is going to impact how much they are able to pay for content.

The Big 12 should just tell West Virginia to fuck off.

The choices are
Houston and one of (BYU, USF, UCF) since those are the media markets. Are all four.
