The Tigers had trash for defense on the left side, so they needed the help badly, especially with a Peralta suspension looming. I figure Iglesias is probably not much befter than a .200 hitter, but so what?? The Tigers can plug him in at #9, no problem. If there's ANYONE in the business who can afford to carry another .200 hitter besides Avila it's the Tivers. That team has enough bats to blow your freakin brains out, and EVERYONE knows it, but they didn't have enough left side range to blow their own noses, and EVERYONE knows that too. The 2 groundball pitchers at the end of the rotation (Fister/Porcello) are the ones who stand to benefit most from this acquisition.

Jhonny Peralta the .240 hitter with limited range vs Jhonny Peralta the .310 hitter about to be suspended for PEDS. I think the juice helped as he has never been a big bat.

Numbers don't lie unless they are enhanced by the juice.

The Tigers tried to get SS last off season and would have again if not for Inglesias. The Yankees found out how hard it is to find a SS when Jeter went out. So unless the Rockies want to part with Tulo or Rangers Elvis, Cubs Castro not much to pick from.

You're complaining about defense, and you mention Starlin Castro?

You clearly either drastically underrate or know nothing about Jhonny Peralta. He's had a solid career. He had a down year last year, but was excellent in 2011. He's inconsistent, but he's had some very good years. Are you suggesting he'll juice one year and then stop another? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

A price for Profar was surprising? explain

Everything I had heard is he was untouchable. Then the Tigers GM is saying that the price for Profar was to high. That tells me the Rangers could have parted with him for the right price.

As for Peavy the interview I heard is the Sox planned on him as a top of the rotation guy.

Lester, Peavy, and Bucholtz when he comes back. I would hope the Sox didn't think he was a top of the rotation guy.

.235-.255 is what I hope for out of Inglesias and stellar defense. It's different for Detroit. A guy with great range to cover slow footed 3B means more than a .275 hitter with average range.

Detroit was willing to go with Peralta a lead footed SS that hit .240 last year. So yes I think it's a big upgrade. Especilly when they had zero options in the minors. If Detroit goes status quo and Peralta gets hit with a season ban Dave D an the Tigers are just SOL!

Profar is kinda blocked at the moment, but if the rangers decided to keep him I think they could find a spot. If the right guy came along he's certainly not untouchable but it will have to be a top talent. Somebody like Stanton or Carlos Gonzalez.

So Elvis is the answer at SS for the foreseeable Future?

Is Profar a possible replacement for Cruz if he gets a suspension?

Well they just locked Elvis up long term and profars value is not high as an OF'er. He's the number one prospect in baseball as a MIF. As an OF'er he's just another guy.

I'm not sure why I see so many Tigers fans claiming they're "set for the foreseeable future" and things to that effect. Iglesias doesn't scream "franchise shortstop" to me. He's great defensively at multiple positions, so he is indeed valuable in a utility role, but it still remains to be seen whether he can produce enough offensively to hold down an every day starting job

Detroit can afford to sacrifice offense for a stellar defensive shortstop. He also gives the Tigers some flexibility in the IF, as today, he is starting at 3B for Detroit, as Cabrera was scratched from the lineup.

I love the trade, as the Tigers have him under team control for 4 or 5 years. I hated to lose Avisail Garcia, but with Castellanos waiting in the wings -- it isn't that big of a deal. If nothing else -- they can use Iglesias in games when Porcello and Fister are on the mound, as the induce more ground balls than basically every pitcher in the MLB.

I honestly think with his hand eye coordination -- he will only improve offensively. He will never be a power hitter, but if he can hit in the .270 range and play stellar defense -- I'd be more than happy with him at SS.

So there was a trade deadline?

Seriously though I think Peavy will be the best payoff.

Maybe he'll be a decent hitter, but the bottom line is, it doesn't matter...they can afford to carry his bat, I think. If Peralta goes away as expected, at the very least they have a good glove to replace him with. If he hits, that's even better.

Look at the Padres, they signed Ronnie Cedeno to replace Cabrera. That's hurtin' right there.

Any hits they get from Iglesias they're viewing as a bonus, because, yes.. I'm only slightly exaggerating to say they've got enough bats to burn up the sun lol. The runs this guy could prevent vs what they were allowing for poor infield defense before he came to Detroit should be a measureable difference. Very relieved to have a defender like that for the Tigers. And, yes.. what the Padres had to trade out for Cabrera down to Cedeno is not called a step down, that's more like a tumble down the hill lol. Poor Padres, they've had rotten luck this season.
