I don't think there's any magic number. Look at the fantastic draft class of 2017 now ranked where they went in rookie drafts (only guys that had workhorse roles at some point) and how they are. I'm not even sure the amount of carries matter either. Some guys are just built to last better than other ones.

Leonard Fournette - 29 years old - already washed up and not on a team
Joe Mixon - 28 years old - definitely slowing down but still some gas in the tank. RB16 right now
Dalvin Cook - 28 years old - see Fournette
Christian McCaffery - 28 years old - consensus RB1 right now

Kareem Hunt - 28 years old - looked really bad last year and is still looking for a new team
Alvin Kamara - 29 years old - efficiency numbers are down, but still very effective in the passing game. RB14 right now
Austin Ekeler - 29 years old - just looked bad last year even when healthy, maybe it was the injury and he can be better. RB33 right now.
Aaron Jones - 29 years old - when he's on the field he's been good, maybe the Vikings can keep him on the field. RB18 right now.

Chris Carson - 29 years old - completely forgot he was in this class, retired in 2022 due to neck injury
James Conner - 29 years old - completely forgot he was in this class either, still plugging along as a workhorse back. Probably by far the most _____________________________ underrated back in this class for his career. RB20 right now

Jordan Mason and UDFA Cody Schrader getting good camp reports from SF and they still haven't seen Guerendo practice yet and he's 6' 220lbs running a 4.33 40. Shanahan gonna have a tough call on who doesn't make the final 53 at RB

Plus Mitchell/Deebo. .... 49ers rich with talent - yet my hope is none see the field for anything more than a breather.

Yeah, CMC and Mitchell are locks imo, the rest fighting for 2 spots

I hate 'being that guy' who fell for camp hype but felt compelled to pick up Deneric (or is it Generic?) Prince in the league I have Pacheco. Had the room (at present) and a drop of Hyatt just seemed inevitable anyway. .... guess we'll see how it all shakes out.

I went back and forth between him and Hill when I added Hill a handful of hours before you picked up Prince

can always do worse than a KC RB if you are gonna stash a dart throw and since you have Pacheco it works. Who knows if he even survives your Labor day cuts, might not matter much in a few weeks

I played musical chairs with Prince all last offseason. Kid looks legit, but something must've been missing. Then agian, they had CEH and McKinnon at the time, so roster/gameday active spots were more limited. No there no McKinnnon (no idea why CEH is still around but that's a different discussion). IF he becomes something, chalk up one more to the list of guys I liked but gave up on too soon.

If he's given a legit shot, IMHO, there's no reason that he can't beat out CEH for back up duties..but he's not alone in that regard. Depending upon Zammit's progress- he could also easily beat CEH out for back up duties. Advantage for Zammit- he's got a better shot at securing that 53rd spot by virtue of special teams ability. Assuming of course, that his learning curve of picking up the NFL game vs rugby goes mostly as planned..granted that is a big assumption, no doubts.

But if KC only keeps three RB's CEH, Prince or Zammit will be out in the cold. Hard to imagine that'd end up being CEH but wouldn't be a major shock I guess.

My biggest issue is that KC RB's are jsut so disappointing in fantasy terms. Especially given that they SHOULD be pure gold.

It's truly a shot in the dark. .... outside of Pach none seem to move the needle for fantasy purposes. Yes, he's not a 'great' fantasy asset but he saved my bacon several times last season.
