I don't think it's a fair trade at all. What has Bernier actually done in his 62 NHL games to warrant a top 15 pick plus in return?

I hope Bernier ends up in Toronto or somewhere else. I don't want him on the Isles if the cost is that steep.

Remember when the seller says you are getting a fair deal it means you are getting ripped off. However I could see a late first for Bernier. If some club offers over 3.3 on an offer sheet Kings get a first and a third.

Which is why they won't. They will either trade with the Kings for a better deal, or they will offer him 3.295 on the offer sheet.

But the offer sheet route is risky because some stupid gm may offer more or Bernier may take some other deal. This is why the Flyers are still saying that Bryz is not being bought out.

my thing is, no goalie should have a ton of value this summer

definitely available:
bernier
luongo
emery
backstrom
miller
nabakov

possibly available:
thomas (coming back?)
hiller/fasth/gibson (doesn't make much sense to keep all 3)
halak (has apparently worn out his welcome with the blues)
bryz (likely buyout)

talk about a surplus of potential starting goalies, and that's just off the top of my head.. a third of the league could switch starting goalies if they wanted to

Exactly. Your scenario would only net the Kings a 2nd round pick. Bernier made 1.25M last year. He's not worth over 3M per year even though he'll possibly get it. He's done nothing to deserve that kind of money.

3 teams are in the running for Jonathan Bernier. Kings are going to take the best offer from Maple Leafs, Flyers or Wild. #RDS

Unless someone comes along with a better deal.
This may go to the draft. I dont know when the UFA/RFA window opens but maybe by then

I really hope Homer doesn't get involved w this bidding war.. There are plenty of other avenues to explore. However, I'm very pessimistic about Homer and trading key assets these days.

Yeah, that's a point I hadn't thought of. Such a quick turnover between the beginning of the offseason and the beginning of free-agency. It really does have to happen soon...

New Jersey as a darkhorse. Talk last summer that they were interested in bringing Bernier in to replace Brodeur.

Not crazy about the idea. Would rather they stay in house (a couple of candidates). I generally don't buy into rumors regarding the Devils because Lou never tips his hand or gives hints about anything. Unless Lombardi was leaking info?

July 5th is when UFA's can sign. Lombardi can't afford to wait that long.

Yeah, the Kings have two of four options. Which two they have depend on which day of the year it is.

If it's before July 5th, they can trade him or not trade him.
Come July 5th, they can match or not match.

@lakingsinsider: Jonathan Bernier has been traded to Toronto for Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens, and a second round pick in 2014 or 2015 (Toronto's option)
