So the crux of you're argument is that Dalton is making Green better, not Green making Dalton better.

ok. I think this about wraps up my night.

Not at all. Just pointing out that Dalton's not the only player who made mistakes. Why can't you credit him with making the game winning play? This was a great win for a team that historically never wins this game.

Because the defense won this game for us. Not Andy Dalton.

Attention folks -- The Bengals have made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. The Mayan apocalypse might have happened. Let's complain about Dalton later.

Because the defense won this game for us. Not Andy Dalton.

No one person (or side of the ball) ever wins a game alone. It was a team win, and ignoring the contributions Andy Dalton made is simply ignorant.

I am hammered. A definite victim of 18 year old Glenfiddich, with an assist from Molson Golden. We have Christmas shopping yet to do tonight. I'm going to make the wife drive. Damned shame the ratbirds are winning,

he threw the ball well. Those were tough completions against a tenacious defense. On the passes he did complete, there was little to no margin for error. Also made the huge throw at the end and two clutch throws on third down from deep in his own territory. If you just go by the stats not impressive. If you recognize that he was playing the #1 defense in the NFL at the top of their game in a pressure packed/hostile environment you have to give the guy credit. gutty performance. threw the ball well despite the stat sheet. Most importantly got the win. Very happy with Dalton today.

I was happy with him as well. The Gresham throw was beautiful. He made a great throw to AJ Green that AJ dropped and the Marvin Jones end zone pass was inches away from a touchdown. He also didn't panic or let the interceptions bother him and he made the big play at the end of the game. He seems to have one or two brain farts a game that fortunately didn't cost us today, but otherwise I thought he played winning football.

He not only didn't get us in the endzone, he didnt even get us CLOSE to scoring on offense.

seriously, you guys can sit around and beat off to a guy who, over the last 4 games agains bad teams, has averaged a 69 quarterback rating, has 3 TDs, 5 INTs, averaging 208 ypg (in a passing offense), and is taking a retarded number of unnecessary sacks.

If you are sincerely happy with that qb play going into the playoffs, thats fine with me. I just happen to not have much faith that we will beat an actual playoff team if that's the production we're going to get.

For as obsessed as some of you are with stat lines and with Carson Palmer, statistically, he's playing much better right now - and you all fucking hate him.

The way Pitt's defense played they would've shut out a ton of teams. Honestly, there were no open WR's. Dalton had no running game. His completions were tough and contested by Pitt db's. He played well today. I don't give a shit what the stat sheet says. Considering the level of the defense, the stakes and the environment he played well.

Pittsburgh is the number 1 pass defense in the league. Dallas and Philly are top half. Countless drops against Dallas and horrible protection against Philly didn't help. AJ let him down again today - twice. And we still don't have a real running game or an established number two receiver.

But you know what? We've won 6 or 7 games. You can look at all the stats you want, but they don't always tell much of a story -- What would you say about Andrew Luck's season?

If the bengals had Andrew Luck, we would have 13 wins.

10 of the 13 pts came off Roethlisberger turnovers. a pick 6, and a last second INT that gave the Bengals the ball in Pittsburgh territory.

the Bengals offense was 4/15 on 3rd down.

the defense forced the Steelers out of FG range after an INT.

the defense won that game.

it's a stretch to give the offense any credit for this one. it wasn't a complete implosion, but they were completely outclassed.

i'm fine with it. some weeks you'll win on offense, sometimes on defense, etc

Amazing, considering that he has a 75 qbr and stats are everything.

BTW -- I don't disagree that the Bengals would have more victories with Luck - He is a star.

Dalton was horrible against Philly. I acknoweged that and some concerns about him after that game. Today was for all practical purposes a playoff game in the most hostile of environments v. a division rival. He made very difficult plays. I didn't DVR the game but wish I would've now. Because what I saw was a QB making some very tough throws. There were no easy yards today. Seems like some of you guys think he should've put up 49 points on Pitt. Honestly, there were no plays to be made. The throws he hit were tough and under tremendous pressure.

Not 49, just 1.

And if you did DVR, you'd see the wide open Gresham TD he missed when he decided to roll to his left when he wasn't even getting pressured..

That might've been the only play he left on the field. and if memory serves me correctly he was being pressured and would've had to make that throw against his body. Every QB leaves some plays on the field.

Let me ask you this, do you think Dalton's completions were easy throws/uncontested?

It didnt have to be against his body though. He was scrambling for no reason. Also, it happens in most games, where he is hesitant about throwing to receivers that are open. Its frustrating to see Dalton make his own job harder at times.

And no, I do not think, especially in our offense, is he typically asked to make that many difficult throws. Certainly nothing more than any NFL QB should be asked. Yes, Pittsburgh has a good defense, and it showed today, but not good enough that I think we should be ok getting zero production from our offense.
